Audit Project Hours and Time Entries

Your agent can pull detailed time tracking data. Use `list_time_entries` to get a recent log or `get_high_volume_time_report` to download up to 2500 records for a full audit. This isn't just a summary; it's the raw data you need for billing and payroll. The OpenAI Agents SDK automatically discovers these tools. Its built-in guardrails mean you can let an agent run reports without worrying it'll go off the rails. The SDK confirms actions before execution, giving you a safe way to automate financial reporting.

Manage Resources with this MCP Server

Get a complete picture of your company's structure inside ClickTime. Your agent can call `list_clicktime_users` to see who's on the team, `list_clicktime_clients` to get your customer list, and `list_clicktime_jobs` to understand active work. Because the SDK supports handoffs between specialized agents, you can build a real resource planning system. One agent could pull the user list, and another could check their time entries against active projects. All of this is traceable through the OpenAI dashboard.

Get Full Project and Task Visibility

This ClickTime server exposes all the core objects you need for project management. Let your agent run `list_clicktime_projects` to see every project, active or not. Then, it can use `list_clicktime_tasks` to see the specific work types associated with them. You don't need to write any parsing logic. The agent gets structured data back and can immediately reason about project status or task allocation. Set `cacheToolsList=True` in your setup, and the agent won't have to re-discover the tools on every run.

Setup guide

Set up ClickTime MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • openai-agents package (pip install openai-agents)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Run pip install openai-agents to install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use MCPServerSse with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all ClickTime tools at runtime.

  3. 3

    Create your Agent

    Pass the MCP to Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives ClickTime tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically.

  4. 4

    Run the agent

    Call Runner.run(agent, prompt) to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate ClickTime tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.

agent.py
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse

async def main():
    async with MCPServerSse(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ) as server:
        agent = Agent(
            name="ClickTime Agent",
            instructions="You have access to ClickTime tools.",
            mcp_servers=[server],
        )
        result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
        print(result.final_output)

asyncio.run(main())

Common questions about ClickTime MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

You connect it via our ClickTime MCP Server. Just `pip install openai-agents`, instantiate the `MCPServerStreamableHttp` client with your Vinkius endpoint URL, and pass it to your Agent constructor. The tools are discovered automatically.
The OpenAI Agents SDK itself doesn't offer a simple tool filter. The best approach is to configure permissions on the Vinkius side or create a wrapper agent that only exposes a subset of functions to other agents in your system.
Yes, your data is secure. The connection uses your private Vinkius endpoint token for authentication. OpenAI's agent framework adds another layer with its pre-execution guardrails, which help prevent accidental data exposure by your agent.
Your agent can pull a high-volume time entry report with up to 2500 records using `get_high_volume_time_report`. It can also list individual time entries, projects, clients, and jobs to build custom reports on the fly.
Your ClickTime data, including user profiles and time entries, is only passed through our ephemeral, zero-trust MCP server. Vinkius handles the authentication, and the server instance exists only for the duration of the request. Your credentials are never exposed to the agent.
