Query DevDocs via Claude Code directly

Terminal-only developers hate leaving the shell to look up API specs. This MCP Server lets Claude Code run `list_libraries` to see every programming language, framework, and SDK available on DevDocs. You can quickly verify if the library you are debugging is supported. The CLI tool gets the list instantly, keeping your hands on the keyboard and your terminal clean.

Fast terminal-based documentation search

Finding the right API path shouldn't involve opening a browser tab. Your terminal agent uses `search_docs` to query the DevDocs index and locate the exact manual pages you need. The agent processes this search directly in your shell session. It finds the correct path in milliseconds, ready to feed into your scripts or pipelines.

Pipe clean Markdown docs into Claude Code

Reading documentation in the terminal is painful when it is formatted for web browsers. The DevDocs MCP Server fetches pages as clean, readable Markdown using the `read_page` tool. Our command-line client consumes this structured text to understand API parameters, exceptions, and return types. It uses this raw data to generate precise code snippets or debug failing scripts on the spot.

Common questions about DevDocs MCP in Claude Code

Run the command `claude mcp add --transport http devdocs -- ` in your terminal. Make sure all configuration flags come before the server name.
Absolutely. Since Claude Code runs entirely in the terminal, it can execute `search_docs` and `read_page` inside automated scripts, GitHub Actions, or Docker containers.
The `list_libraries` tool fetches the current directory of supported languages directly from the API. Claude Code queries this dynamically to ensure you always get the latest version mappings.
The agent uses `search_docs` to target specific sub-pages instead of downloading entire manuals. This targeted approach keeps the terminal output concise and prevents context window bloat.
Yes, only the documentation search terms you query are sent to the DevDocs API. Vinkius hosts the server in a secure, ephemeral V8 isolate sandbox, ensuring your local shell environment and environment variables are never exposed.
