Ground RAG Queries in Live Operations

`list_appointments` and `list_customers` feed your LlamaIndex knowledge base with real-time operational state. You build an application where a user asks about today's schedule, and the engine queries the API instead of relying on stale documents. The agent pulls the exact booking details and merges them with your static policy files. The LlamaIndex FunctionAgent decides when to query the live endpoints versus when to search the vector store. If a user asks for a specific client's history, the agent triggers the tools, retrieves the JSON, and synthesizes an answer grounded entirely in factual data.

Index the MyTime MCP Server Catalog

`list_services` and `list_products` output raw inventory data that LlamaIndex instantly vectorizes. You pass `mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()` into your agent, granting it read access to everything you sell. It creates a semantic map of your offerings. When a customer asks for a recommendation, the agent searches this newly created index. It matches the semantic intent of the query against the actual descriptions pulled from MyTime. You get accurate, API-backed recommendations without manual data entry.

Analyze Location and Staff Context

`get_business_info`, `list_locations`, and `list_staff` provide the structural context your RAG application needs. The agent reads the operating hours and staff rosters, storing them as reference nodes. It knows exactly who works at which branch. You query the system about staff distribution, and it routes the request through the semantic index. It cross-references the staff IDs with location data, outputting a clear summary of your workforce. The knowledge is always up to date because it originates from the live MCP endpoints.

Setup guide

Set up MyTime MCP in LlamaIndex

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • llama-index-tools-mcp package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install llama-index-tools-mcp llama-index-llms-openai. The MCP tools package provides BasicMCPClient and McpToolSpec.

  2. 2

    Connect with BasicMCPClient

    Point BasicMCPClient to your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports SSE and Streamable HTTP transports.

  3. 3

    Convert to LlamaIndex tools

    Call mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async() to convert all MyTime MCP tools into native FunctionTool objects that any LlamaIndex agent can use.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Create a FunctionAgent with the tools and your preferred LLM. Swap OpenAI for Anthropic, Gemini, or any LlamaIndex-supported provider.

agent.py
from llama_index.tools.mcp import BasicMCPClient, McpToolSpec
from llama_index.core.agent.workflow import FunctionAgent
from llama_index.llms.openai import OpenAI

# Connect to the MCP
mcp_client = BasicMCPClient(
    "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
mcp_tool_spec = McpToolSpec(client=mcp_client)

# Convert MCP tools to LlamaIndex tools
tools = await mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()

# Create and run the agent
agent = FunctionAgent(
    tools=tools,
    llm=OpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
    system_prompt="You have access to MyTime tools.",
)
response = await agent.run("List recent MyTime data")

Common questions about MyTime MCP in LlamaIndex

Install `llama-index-tools-mcp`. Initialize an MCP client with the MyTime endpoint, wrap it in an McpToolSpec, and pass the tools to your agent.
Yes. The agent pulls historical data via `list_appointments` and indexes the text. You then run semantic searches across months of booking histories.
You filter the tool list directly in the setup. Pass only `get_availability` and `list_services` if you want to restrict the agent to booking inquiries.
You load your PDFs into a standard vector store and give your FunctionAgent access to both the vector query engine and the MyTime MCP tools. The agent routes the query based on intent.
The agent processes appointment IDs and customer names in memory during the query execution. LlamaIndex only stores this data permanently if you explicitly write the API responses into your persistent vector database.
