Stream Breaking Headlines via Vercel AI SDK

The NewsAPI MCP Server streams live global news data directly into your frontend. Your users don't want to stare at loading spinners while your app fetches updates. Connect this server to your Vercel AI SDK project, and you can stream live text straight to the UI. When your agent calls `get_headlines_by_country` or `get_headlines_by_category`, the data renders in real-time. You get instant access to top stories across 150,000+ sources. Pass the tools to `streamText`, and watch the news feed populate on screen as the model processes the headlines. It gives your audience a live global dashboard without building custom scraping backends.

Build Live Domain-Specific Feeds

The `get_articles_from_domains` tool restricts the agent's search to exact publications like Bloomberg or Reuters. General news is noise. Your users need specific intelligence from trusted outlets. If a user wants to know what specific competitors are doing, trigger `search_headlines`. The SDK pipes the exact matches directly into your Svelte or Vue application. You get precise, actionable data formatting in front of the user's eyes.

Multi-Language Article Search

The `get_articles_by_language` tool pulls localized reports for global applications. You can build interfaces that pull specific regional reporting instantly. The model grabs the exact language code, hits the endpoint, and streams the translated or native results back to the client. Pair it with `get_recent_articles` to give your audience an unfiltered view of foreign press coverage.

Setup guide

Set up NewsAPI MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • ai + @modelcontextprotocol/sdk packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install ai @modelcontextprotocol/sdk plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Create the Streamable HTTP transport

    Use StreamableHTTPClientTransport with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and use tools

    Call mcpClient.tools() to auto-discover all NewsAPI tools. Pass them directly to generateText() or streamText() — no manual schema definitions needed.

  4. 4

    Works with any model provider

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK provider — Anthropic, Google, Mistral. The MCP tools work identically across all supported models.

import { experimental_createMCPClient as createMCPClient } from "ai";
import { StreamableHTTPClientTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/streamableHttp";
import { generateText } from "ai";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const transport = new StreamableHTTPClientTransport(
  new URL("https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp")
);

const mcpClient = await createMCPClient({ transport });
const tools = await mcpClient.tools();

const { text } = await generateText({
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  tools,
  prompt: "List recent NewsAPI transactions",
});

console.log(text);
await mcpClient.close();

Common questions about NewsAPI MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Install `@ai-sdk/mcp` and set up the connection using `createMCPClient`. Pass the HTTP transport URL we provide, then call `mcpClient.tools()` to inject the news endpoints into your `streamText` function.
Yes. When your agent calls `search_articles`, the SDK streams the text generation based on those articles straight to your frontend. The user sees the summary typing out immediately.
It works directly on the edge. You just need to configure your `createMCPClient` to use the HTTP transport method, allowing your Edge Function to call the Vinkius MCP endpoint without maintaining long-lived connections.
Call the `list_sources` tool to get the available IDs. Then, configure your agent to pass those specific IDs into the `get_headlines_by_source` tool during the generation step.
This server processes search queries, country codes, and category filters sent by your application. Vinkius executes these requests inside ephemeral V8 isolates. The runtime destroys the sandbox the millisecond the API returns the news payload, leaving zero trace of your search parameters.
