Manage active meeting rooms using the MCP Server

Need to know who's in a call? The `get_active_rooms` tool lists every live RTC room. You can also get a full roster of attendees for any given space by calling `get_room_users`. This lets you build out dashboards or scripts that monitor meeting status. Use these tools to check which rooms are running, identify participants, and determine the scope of your call administration in Claude Desktop.

Control stream audio and video output

If you need to focus the conversation or mute a background noise, the `mute_stream` tool handles it. You specify if you're muting 'audio' or 'video'. Conversely, `unmute_stream` brings that specific stream back online. This capability lets your AI agent manage the flow of media in real time, making sure only necessary streams are active during a call managed through Claude Desktop.

Start and stop cloud recording/transcoding

Record calls automatically by running `start_cloud_record`. When you're done capturing data, just use `stop_cloud_record` to wrap things up. Similarly, if you need a specific stream format, `start_transcode` kicks off the necessary conversion process. This gives your AI client control over post-call processing, ensuring that every meeting managed via Claude Desktop leaves behind usable assets.

Common questions about Volcengine RTC MCP in Claude Desktop

You call the `get_active_rooms` tool. Your AI client pulls a list of every running room ID, letting you know exactly where activity is happening right now.
Absolutely. The `get_room_users` tool retrieves the full list of participants in any given room. This data helps your agent verify attendance or build a directory of users.
You must specify whether you're working with 'audio' or 'video' when calling `mute_stream` or `unmute_stream`. The tool requires this precise input to function.
You use the agent to sequence the calls: first, `start_cloud_record`, then let the meeting happen, and finally, execute `stop_cloud_record`. The process is fully scripted through your AI client.
It touches live session metadata, including room IDs, user lists, and stream status (audio/video). This allows the agent to manage real-time presence information.
