You can check up to three US airports in a single call using the watch_status capability.

How does the delta feature work?

You provide a timestamp from your previous check, and the MCP returns only the new alerts or weather changes that occurred after that time.

Can I filter for specific types of weather warnings?

Yes. You can use the alert_watch capability to monitor specific event types like TornadoWarnings or FloodWarnings.

What happens if the airport station feed is empty?

If the station feed is momentarily empty, the conditions field may return null.

No. The National Weather Service API is public and requires no key, no account, no signup. Anonymous access is rate-limited to roughly 30 requests per minute, which is why batched calls are capped at 3 airports and the capabilities keep their fetch count low.

How do the "since" delta capabilities work?

The server is stateless. Call airport_status (or any delta capability), keep the as_of timestamp in the agent's context, and on the next check pass it as since. The capability fetches the recent observations/alerts and returns only what is newer than that timestamp. e.g. new alerts, gusts above 39 km/h, visibility drops. The station feed keeps ~50 most recent observations, so a baseline older than that window comes back as "no observations since X" with a note.

Which airports are supported?

The major US commercial airports (roughly 45): JFK, LGA, EWR, BOS, IAD, ATL, ORD, DFW, AUS, DEN, SEA, SFO, LAX, SNA, PHX, LAS, SLC, MCO, MIA, FLL, TPA, MSY, STL, DTW, BNA, MEM, CHS, CLT, RDU, GSP, OAK, PDX, GEG, RNO, ONT, SAN, HNL and more. find_airports lists the exact supported codes; the airport code resolves to its NWS forecast zone and METAR station automatically.

Why can't I filter alerts by state or time?

The NWS API's 2026 revision dropped the state/sent/since query parameters. the server resolves your airport to its NWS forecast zone and filters time deltas client-side from the timestamps each alert carries. So you always filter by the airport (zone) and by since, which is what a traveler cares about anyway.
