Your AI does the work. We keep it safe and sound.

No other AI tool gives you this. Your workflow runs in the client you already love, your account stays protected, and you decide what the agent can and cannot do. It is the whole reason to make the switch.

Each Connector lives inside our infrastructure, the same place where your workflow runs. The three things below are already part of it, working quietly in the background so you never have to think about them. Nothing to add, nothing to set up, nothing to worry about.

How Vinkius works: one connection, every tool, in any AI
V8 Isolate01

Each Connector runs inside its own sealed environment.

Each Connector runs inside its own sealed V8 runtime — no access to your files, your system, or other servers. A Connector never sees past its own request.

Kill Switch02

One switch stops every agent. Instantly.

One action deactivates every Connector, revokes every token, and ends every session at once. AI Governance keeps the record.

FinOps per User03

Spending limits that pause instead of surprise.

Every user keeps their own connections and credentials, isolated from everyone else. Anything that would cross your spending limit is held for your approval, not billed.

Three controls, built into the layer your AI connects through.

Complete set · 6 capabilities

The complete USGS Water Data + National Weather Service capability set.

These are the exact actions your AI can choose when you ask it to work with USGS Water Data + National Weather Service.

Capability set01 / 02

01-03

3 capabilities in this set.

Part of 6 available through USGS Water Data + National Weather Service.

  1. 01

    Current gage

This capability provides the latest gage height for a specific USGS site. It compares the current level against the recorded flood stage and gives a status verdict.

  2. 02

    Gage trend

This capability calculates multi-day trends for a USGS gage. It provides daily min, max, and mean values along with the direction of the water level and how many days the river has exceeded flood stage.

  3. 03

    Find gages

Use this to locate stream gages within a specific US state or near a certain river or town. It returns gage IDs, site numbers, and drainage area details.

Capability set02 / 02

04-06

3 capabilities in this set.

Part of 6 available through USGS Water Data + National Weather Service.

  1. 04

    Flood alerts

This capability pulls all active NWS flood alerts across the United States. You can also filter the results to watch for one specific event type.

  2. 05

    Flood delta

This capability identifies new or updated NWS flood alerts issued since a specific timestamp. It separates these into alerts that are still active and those that have since expired.

  3. 06

    Flood watch

This capability monitors a single type of NWS flood event across the country. It returns a verdict on whether that specific event type is currently active.

One connector, every AI

USGS Water Data + National Weather Service works with the most popular AI clients.

These are the most popular clients, each with a step-by-step guide: one link, set up once, with governance and visibility built in. And because everything runs on the MCP standard, the same connection also works in any other compatible client — nothing to rebuild.

Building your own app? The connector is yours to use.

You don't need a client to put USGS Water Data + National Weather Service to work: the same hosted connection plugs into your own applications and agent code, with the same governance on every request. Build with it, chat with it — one connection for both.

Preview access · not provider authentication

The vk_preview_* token belongs to Vinkius preview infrastructure. It lets Claude discover and display the capabilities of USGS Water Data + National Weather Service, so you can see the experience inside your AI.

It does not authenticate your account with USGS Water Data + National Weather Service. Actions requiring credentials or live account data may not run until you activate the Connector and authorize the service.

Who it's for

Built for the work USGS Water Data + National Weather Service owners hand off.

This MCP is built for anyone who needs machine-readable hydrological data instead of vague weather reports.

  • 01

    Property Owners

They use the agent to monitor specific river gages near their homes or businesses.

  • 02

    Emergency Managers

They hand off the task of scanning nationwide flood alerts to an automated agent.

  • 03

    Automation Developers

They build scheduled flood pulses that trigger only when new alerts or gage changes occur.

FAQ

Questions USGS Water Data + National Weather Service owners ask.

  • 01

Do I need an API key to use this?

No. Both the USGS and NWS data sources are public, so this MCP is keyless and stateless.

  • 02

How can I avoid getting the same flood alerts every time I ask?

You can use the flood_delta capability. By passing the timestamp of your last check, your agent will only receive alerts issued since that time.

  • 03

Can I monitor a specific river?

Yes. You can use find_gages to locate the specific gage for a river or town and then check its current status.

  • 04

What happens if a gage is not reporting data?

The current_gage capability will report a status of no_data or stale_data rather than an error, letting your agent know the feed is quiet.

  • 05

Which AI clients can use this MCP?

Any MCP-compatible client like Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, or VS Code can use this capability once connected via Vinkius.

  • 06

    Do I need credentials?

No. Both the USGS Water Data OGC API and the NWS alerts API are public with no key, no account. Anonymous NWS access is rate-limited to roughly 30 requests per minute, so the all-events sweep is kept to a handful of calls.

  • 07

How does the "since" delta detection work?

The server is stateless. Any capability that returns an as_of or sent timestamp is your baseline: keep it in the agent's context, and on the next check pass it as since. flood_delta then returns only the alerts issued after that moment, split into still-active and since-expired. the agent reports the change, not the whole picture again.

  • 08

Which rivers and gages are covered?

Every US stream gage that publishes public USGS data. find_gages lists them per state, biggest drainage area first, so the rivers that actually flood (Colorado, Sacramento, Columbia, Missouri, ...) come on top. One honest caveat: USGS daily summaries and continuous feeds are sparse per gage; a gage without recent data answers "no data" with a note instead of failing.

  • 09

Why are flood alerts nationwide instead of by state?

The NWS API's 2026 revision dropped the state query parameter, so alert sweeps run by event type across the whole country. State-level precision lives in the USGS side of the sentinel: find_gages filters gages by state (and drainage area), so "is my county's river rising?" is answered by the gage, while "is anything flooding in the US?" is answered by the alerts.
