How to trigger background tasks with your AI

Connect your AI to AWS Lambda to kick off heavy workloads. Once the trigger is sent, your agent handles the handoff so you can move on to other things.

Ask AI about this page

Short answer

How can I run long processes through my AI?

You tell your AI to call a specific Lambda function, which starts the work on AWS immediately. The AI confirms the request was sent so you can keep working while the process runs. You'll see the execution results once the function finishes.

Task outcomes

Where your work lands.

The AI manages the handoff to AWS, resulting in one of these four states.

SUCCESS

Task is running

The AI confirms the function was successfully invoked. You get a receipt that the process is officially underway on AWS.

LOGS

Execution data

The AI provides the response payload from the Lambda function. This includes the data or status codes returned by your specific function.

ERROR

Trigger failed

If the function can't be reached or the parameters are wrong, your AI tells you why. You'll know if it was a permission issue or a bad input.

HUMAN

Manual review needed

If the function returns an error during execution or needs specific input you haven't provided, the AI will ask you for clarification.

The workflow

What your AI does when the command arrives.

Your agent acts as the bridge between your chat and your AWS environment.

  1. Parse the request

Your agent looks at your prompt to find the target Lambda function and the required data.

    invoke_function
  2. Send the trigger

The AI calls the AWS API to pass your instructions to the function.

    invoke_function
  3. Capture response

The AI waits for the immediate response from AWS to ensure the call was accepted.

    invoke_function
  4. Report status

Your agent tells you if the trigger worked or if the invocation failed.

    invoke_function

FAQ

How this task behaves.

  • 01

Does the AI wait for the task to finish?

No. The AI triggers the function and confirms the invocation. If the function is designed to run for ten minutes, the AI won't sit there waiting; it tells you the trigger was successful and moves on.

  • 02

Can the AI change my AWS permissions?

No. The AI can only execute functions that your existing AWS IAM roles already allow. It cannot modify your security settings or create new users.

  • 03

What happens if the function fails halfway through?

The AI only knows if the initial trigger worked. If the function starts but crashes later due to a code error, the AI won't know unless you specifically ask it to check logs via a different tool.

  • 04

Can I pass complex data to the function?

Yes. You can provide any valid JSON payload in your prompt, and the AI will pass that data directly to the function.

  • 05

Will the AI delete my Lambda functions?

No. This connector only has the capability to invoke functions. It cannot delete, update, or create new Lambda functions in your AWS account.
