How to automate incident response playbooks with your AI

Connect your AI to Cortex XSIAM to run pre-defined security workflows. Once linked, your agent handles the grunt work of containment and remediation.

Ask AI about this page

Short answer

How can I automate my incident response playbooks using AI?

You tell your AI client to run a specific playbook in Cortex XSIAM, and it executes the workflow immediately. This lets you handle things like IP blocking or password resets through a chat interface. You'll see how the automation flows below.

The results of automation.

Where your response lands.

Running a playbook moves a task from a manual checklist to an automated action.

REMEDIATION

Instant threat containment

The AI triggers playbooks that block malicious IPs or isolate hosts. You stop the spread without clicking through multiple security consoles.

ACCESS

User credential resets

Your agent runs workflows to reset passwords or revoke sessions. This handles common identity-based incidents in seconds.

HUMAN

Manual oversight required

Complex investigations that don't match a pre-defined playbook stay with you. The AI identifies the need, but you decide how to proceed if no automation exists.

AUDIT

Logged execution history

Every playbook run is recorded in XSIAM. You get a clear trail of what the AI triggered and when it finished.

The workflow

What your AI does when a playbook is requested.

The AI acts as the bridge between your natural language command and the XSIAM engine.

  1. Identify the playbook

Your agent looks at the incident details and selects the correct playbook name from your XSIAM configuration.

    execute_playbook
  2. Pass parameters

The AI extracts necessary data like target IP addresses or user IDs from your chat to feed into the playbook.

    execute_playbook
  3. Trigger execution

The agent sends the command to XSIAM to start the automated sequence.

    execute_playbook
  4. Confirm completion

The AI waits for the playbook to finish and reports the result back to your chat window.

    execute_playbook

FAQ

How the automation behaves

  • 01

Can the AI create new playbooks?

No. The AI can only execute playbooks that you have already defined and configured within Cortex XSIAM.

  • 02

Does the AI decide which playbook to run?

The AI suggests or selects a playbook based on your request, but it only uses the tools available in the XSIAM environment.

  • 03

Will the AI delete security logs?

No. The AI only has the ability to execute playbooks. It cannot delete or modify your XSIAM logs or historical data.

  • 04

Can I interrupt a playbook once it starts?

The AI triggers the execution in XSIAM. If the playbook is already running, you would need to manage the interruption within the XSIAM console itself.

  • 05

What happens if a playbook fails?

The AI will report the error returned by the XSIAM execution attempt so you know exactly why the task didn't complete.
