Short answer
Can I run Drone CI builds from my AI chat?
Yes. Your AI can trigger new builds, stop running ones, restart failed jobs, and manage cron schedules. You get full control over your pipelines through simple text commands.
Build management outcomes
Pipeline control outcomes
What happens when you give your AI a command.
RUNNING
Active build control
Your AI executes build commands or stops processes that are hanging. You get immediate feedback on the build status.
APPROVAL
Human-in-the-loop gates
The AI handles build approvals or declines when your pipeline hits a manual gate. You decide the fate of a deployment via chat.
SCHEDULING
Automated cron jobs
Your agent sets up or triggers scheduled tasks. You can manage recurring pipeline runs without touching the Drone UI.
MANUAL
Human oversight
The AI cannot modify your actual Drone configuration files or YAML. You still own the underlying pipeline logic.
The workflow
What your AI does when a build request arrives.
The AI translates your chat commands into direct API calls to Drone CI.
Initiate builds
When you ask to start a specific pipeline, the AI sends the command to launch it immediately.
create_buildManage active runs
If a build is stuck or needs a fresh start, the AI kills the current process or kicks off a new one.
stop_buildrestart_buildHandle gates
For pipelines requiring manual intervention, the AI processes your decision to let a build proceed or fail.

How the Drone CI Connector behaves
- 01
Can the AI change my .drone.yml file?
No. The AI can only trigger actions like builds and cron jobs. It cannot edit your pipeline configuration files.
- 02
Can I stop a build that is already finished?
No. The stop tool is for active, running builds only.
- 03
Does the AI need my Drone password?
No. Vinkius manages the connection securely so your agent can act on your behalf without seeing your raw credentials.
- 04
Can the AI delete a cron job?
No. The current tools allow for creating and triggering cron jobs, but not deleting them.
- 05
Can I use this with Cursor?
Yes. Any MCP-compatible client like Cursor, Claude, or Windsurf can use this once connected.
