Short answer
How can I use AI to manage my IoT hardware?
You use your AI to read current sensor values and write new configuration settings to LightDB. This lets you adjust device behavior or monitor thresholds using natural language. You'll see how the data flows between your chat and your hardware below.
Control outcomes
Device management results
What happens when you give your AI a command.
READ
Live sensor monitoring
The AI pulls current values from LightDB. You get an immediate snapshot of your hardware's status.
WRITE
Remote configuration
The AI updates device settings in the database. Your hardware reacts to these new parameters automatically.
LOGIC
Threshold management
You can tell the AI to change when an alert triggers. It updates the specific LightDB keys that control your logic.
HUMAN
Manual oversight
The AI handles the data updates, but you decide when a threshold is too high or low. You remain the final decision maker.
The workflow
What your AI does when <the thing arrives>.
The AI acts as the bridge between your text commands and the Golioth LightDB.
Check current status
The AI looks up the existing values in your device's LightDB to understand the current environment.
get_lightdb_stateAnalyze the data
Your agent compares the retrieved sensor data against your requested changes or desired limits.
get_lightdb_stateUpdate settings
The AI writes the new configuration or threshold values directly to the database.
set_lightdb_stateConfirm changes
The AI verifies the write was successful and tells you the new state of the device.

}What is the current temperature reading in the [sensor_id] LightDB state?
Change the [threshold_name] in LightDB to [value] for my device.
Check the current configuration for [device_id] and tell me if any values look out of range.
Set the [parameter_name] to [value] and confirm when it is done.

How this task behaves
- 01
Can the AI physically move my hardware?
No. The AI only writes data to LightDB. Your hardware must be programmed to watch those specific LightDB keys to take physical action.
- 02
Can the AI delete my entire LightDB database?
No. The tools only allow for getting state or setting specific states. There is no tool provided to delete or wipe the database.
- 03
Does the AI need to know my Golioth password?
No. Vinkius manages the connection securely so your AI client never sees your login credentials.
- 04
Can I use this to monitor multiple devices at once?
Yes, as long as you specify the correct LightDB keys or device identifiers in your prompts.
- 05
Will the AI automatically fix a sensor if it breaks?
No. The AI can only change data values. It cannot perform hardware repairs or diagnostic resets unless those functions are triggered by a LightDB change.
