How to manage status page incidents with your AI

Connect Instatus to your AI client to handle service updates without leaving your chat interface.

Ask AI about this page

Short answer

Can I manage Instatus incidents through my AI?

Yes. You can use your AI to create new incidents, update existing ones, or pull a list of current outages. This lets you keep your status page current using natural language commands. You'll see how the specific tool capabilities map to these actions below.

Where every issue lands.

Incident management outcomes

Your AI handles the heavy lifting of status updates so you can focus on the fix.

LIVE

Instant incident creation

The AI uses your instructions to spin up new outage reports. You get a live status page update immediately.

ACTIVE

Real-time status updates

Keep customers informed by telling your AI to change the status or description of an ongoing issue. It pushes those changes to Instatus instantly.

AUDIT

Incident history tracking

Ask your AI to list or fetch specific past incidents. You get a clear view of your service history through chat.

HUMAN

Manual oversight required

The AI cannot decide when a service is down or when it's fixed. You stay in control of the actual decision-making and timing.

The workflow

What your AI does when an outage occurs.

The AI acts as the bridge between your chat and the Instatus API.

  1. Report the outage

When a service fails, tell your AI to start a new incident. It can even use a pre-set format to save you time.

    create_incidentcreate_incident_from_template
  2. Update progress

As you find the root cause, tell your AI to update the incident details or status. This keeps the public page accurate.

    update_incident
  3. Check current status

If you aren't sure what's currently broken, ask your AI to show you all active incidents.

    list_incidents
  4. Clean up records

Once an issue is fully resolved and documented, you can tell your AI to remove an incident record if needed.

FAQ

How the incident management works

  • 01

Can the AI automatically detect outages?

No. The AI only acts when you tell it to. It cannot monitor your servers or trigger an incident on its own.

  • 02

Can the AI delete my entire status page?

No. The AI can only delete specific incidents using the delete_incident tool. It cannot modify your account settings or delete the page itself.

  • 03

Can I use templates for new incidents?

Yes. You can ask the AI to create an incident using a specific template you have already set up in Instatus.

  • 04

Does the AI handle the actual communication with customers?

The AI updates the status page, which is what your customers see. It does not send emails or Slack messages unless you have other tools connected for that.

  • 05

Can I see a list of all past incidents?

Yes. You can ask your AI to list incidents to see what has happened recently.
