Short answer
How do I manage assistant threads and history with my AI?
You use SenseCore Platform to build, run, and inspect individual conversation threads. This allows your agent to maintain context across multiple messages and access past interactions. You'll see how the agent handles these steps below.
Where every action lands.
The outcomes of thread management.
Your agent uses these tools to organize its memory and interactions.
STATE
Persistent conversation threads
The agent uses create_thread to start fresh or continue existing chats. This keeps context isolated and organized.
MEMORY
Full message history
By using list_messages, your agent can look back at what was said. This prevents the agent from repeating itself.
EXECUTION
Active run monitoring
The agent tracks its own progress using get_run_status. You'll know exactly when a task is finished or if it hit a snag.
HUMAN
Manual oversight needed
The agent cannot delete threads or clear history on its own. You must decide when to wipe a thread or start over.
The workflow
What your AI does when a conversation starts.
The agent follows a specific sequence to ensure it stays on track with your requests.
Initialize the chat
The agent sets up a new container for the conversation to hold all subsequent messages.
create_threadAdd user input
Your instructions or questions are added to the thread so the agent can process them.
create_messageExecute the task
The agent starts a run to process the thread and generate a response based on the history.
create_runCheck progress
The agent monitors the status of the current run to ensure the response is ready.

How thread management works.
- 01
Can the AI delete a thread once it's finished?
No. The agent can create and manage messages within a thread, but it does not have the tool to delete threads.
- 02
How does the AI remember what I said earlier?
The agent uses the thread ID to pull previous messages and maintain context during a run.
- 03
Can the AI change the assistant's core instructions?
No. The agent can manage threads and messages, but it cannot modify the underlying assistant configuration.
- 04
Does the AI need to check if a task is done?
Yes. The agent uses status checks to monitor the progress of a run after it has been started.
- 05
Can I see the history of all threads ever created?
No. The agent can list messages within a specific thread, but it cannot browse a global list of all historical threads.
