Short answer
How can I hand off WhatsApp chats from my AI to a person?
Your AI monitors your Wati inbox and uses the assign_operator tool to move specific chats to a human agent. This ensures complex questions get handled by people while your automated flows manage the basics. You'll see how the handoff works below.

How the handoff behaves
- 01
Can the AI send messages to customers on WhatsApp?
No. The AI uses the tools to manage chat assignments and monitor the inbox, but it does not draft or send outgoing messages to customers.
- 02
Does the AI delete any WhatsApp messages?
No. The AI only reads messages and assigns operators. It has no capability to delete or modify message history.
- 03
How does the AI know which human to pick?
The AI uses the assignment tool to move the chat to an operator within your Wati setup.
- 04
Can the AI change my Wati automation settings?
No. The AI can only interact with the chat flow by assigning operators. It cannot change your existing Wati bot logic or settings.
- 05
Will the human operator know the AI was involved?
The human will see the chat in their queue as a standard assigned conversation once the AI performs the handoff.
