Short answer
How can I archive research datasets with my AI?
You tell your AI client to create a new deposition and upload your files to Zenodo. It handles the repository structure and file transfers so you don't have to use the web interface. You'll get a permanent DOI once the deposition is published.
The results.
Where your data ends up.
This is what happens after you give your AI the command.
METADATA
New Zenodo deposition
The AI uses the repository tools to set up a new entry with your specific research metadata.
STORAGE
Data files uploaded
Your files move from your local environment or workspace directly into the Zenodo storage.
ACCESS
Public DOI issued
Once the deposition is live, your data gets a persistent identifier for citations.
HUMAN
Final review needed
You must check the deposition details and decide when to make the data public.
The workflow
What your AI does when the data arrives.
The AI follows a specific sequence to ensure your data is correctly registered and stored.
Initialize the record
Your agent sets up the deposition container in Zenodo using the metadata you provide.
create_depositionTransfer files
The AI pushes your datasets and supporting files into the newly created deposition.
upload_deposition_fileMake it public
You can instruct the agent to finalize the process and make the record visible to the world.
publish_depositionVerify status
The agent confirms the files are successfully attached and the deposition is ready.

How the Zenodo Connector behaves.
- 01
Can the AI delete a deposition once it is published?
No. The current tools only allow for creating, uploading, and publishing. Deleting or modifying existing records must be done manually on the Zenodo website.
- 02
Does the AI handle the DOI generation?
Yes. Once the AI publishes the deposition, Zenodo automatically assigns the DOI.
- 03
Can I upload massive datasets through my AI?
The AI handles the upload via the provided tools, but the success of large transfers depends on your local connection and the limits of the Zenodo API.
- 04
Will the AI automatically publish my data?
No. The AI will only publish when you explicitly tell it to do so.
- 05
Can the AI change the metadata after the file is uploaded?
No. The tools provided are for creation, uploading, and publishing. It cannot edit the metadata of an existing deposition.
