Bring Geospatial Data
to Cursor
Foursquare MCP Server · 10 tools available to AI Agents
What is the Foursquare MCP Server?
Connect your Foursquare account to any AI agent and take full control of your geospatial intelligence and place discovery workflows through natural conversation.
What you can do
- Place Discovery Orchestration — Identify bounded routing spaces inside the headless Foursquare POI graph and extract explicitly attached REST arrays targeting specific search queries near any GPS pin
- Rich Metadata Inspection — Perform structural extraction of properties driving active node schemas, retrieving mega-document payloads including hours, ratings, and precise mapping arrays natively
- Visual & Social Auditing — Retrieve explicit cloud logging tracing media URL limits to compile dynamic image URLs and capture raw text sentiments left by humans to track venue quality
- Geospatial Intelligence — Execute immediate queries within custom drawn multi-point geometries or specific radius boundaries to find what exists physically adjacent to any target
- Precise Venue Matching — Dispatch automated validation checks routing explicit duplication logic to force Foursquare to confidently return exactly one node for ambiguous strings
- Intelligent Autocomplete — Provision highly-available JSON payloads generating fast typeaheads by querying partial letters to predict user intent natively
- Taxonomy Oversight — Enumerate explicitly attached structured rules exporting the entire official Foursquare classification tree to resolve internal type codes flawlessly
How it works
1. Subscribe to this server
2. Enter your Foursquare API Key (found in the Foursquare Developer Console > Projects > API Keys)
3. Start exploring the world from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client
Who is this for?
- Travel & Logistics Planners — search for venues and verify hours of operation without manual web searches
- Real Estate & City Analysts — audit POI density and venue quality within specific polygons using natural language
- App Developers — test and debug location-based search parameters and verify venue schemas through natural conversation
- Marketing Researchers — monitor foot traffic trends and user tips for specific store locations in real-time

Why Cursor?
Cursor's Agent mode turns Foursquare into an in-editor superpower. Ask Cursor to generate code using live data from Foursquare and it fetches, processes, and writes. all in a single agentic loop. 10 tools appear alongside file editing and terminal access, creating a unified development environment grounded in real-time information.
- —
Agent mode turns Cursor into an autonomous coding assistant that can read files, run commands, and call MCP tools without switching context
- —
Cursor's Composer feature can generate entire files using real-time data fetched through MCP. no copy-pasting from external dashboards
- —
MCP tools appear alongside built-in tools like file reading and terminal access, creating a unified agentic environment
- —
VS Code extension compatibility means your existing workflow, keybindings, and extensions all work alongside MCP tools
Foursquare in Cursor
Foursquare and 2,500 other MCP servers. One platform. One governance layer.
Teams that connect Foursquare to Cursor through Vinkius don't need to source, host, or maintain individual MCP servers. Every tool call runs inside a hardened runtime with credential isolation, DLP, and a signed audit chain.

Why teams choose Vinkius for Foursquare in Cursor
The Foursquare MCP Server runs on Vinkius-managed infrastructure inside AWS — a purpose-built runtime with per-request V8 isolates, Ed25519 signed audit chains, and sub-40ms cold starts. All 10 tools execute in hardened sandboxes optimized for native MCP execution.
Your AI agents in Cursor only access the data you authorize, with DLP that blocks sensitive information from ever reaching the model, kill switch for instant shutdown, and up to 60% token savings. Enterprise-grade infrastructure, zero maintenance.

Every tool call from Cursor to the Foursquare MCP Server is protected by DLP redaction, cryptographic audit chains, V8 sandbox isolation, kill switch, and financial circuit breakers.
Frequently asked questions
Can my agent search for places within a specific drawn area (polygon)?
Yes. Use the 'search_within_polygon' tool. Provide a coordinate string representing the multi-point geometry. The agent will analyze the localized boundaries and restrict the POI lookup strictly inside that drawn area.
How do I retrieve the opening hours and ratings for a venue via chat?
Use the 'get_place_details' tool. Provide the Foursquare ID (fsq_id). The agent will fetch the full payload including operating hours, average ratings, and price levels natively from the places graph.
Can I see photos and user tips for a specific store through the agent?
Absolutely. Use the 'get_place_photos' and 'get_place_tips' tools. Your agent will pull dynamic image URLs and capture raw text sentiments left by other visitors to help you evaluate venue quality flawlessly.
What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?
Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.
Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?
Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.
Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?
No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.
How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?
Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.
Tools not appearing in Cursor
Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
