Connect CDC Disease Sentinel to ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini

Set it up once and it works in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and any other client you love. It all runs safely in the background, so you can relax and focus on what really matters. Track US disease surges and trends with live CDC data.

Your AI does the work. We keep it safe and sound.

No other AI tool gives you this. Your workflow runs in the client you already love, your account stays protected, and you decide what the agent can and cannot do. It is the whole reason to make the switch.

Each Connector lives inside our infrastructure, the same place where your workflow runs. The three things below are already part of it, working quietly in the background so you never have to think about them. Nothing to add, nothing to set up, nothing to worry about.

How Vinkius works: one connection, every tool, in any AI
V8 Isolate01

Each Connector runs inside its own sealed environment.

Each Connector runs inside its own sealed V8 runtime — no access to your files, your system, or other servers. A Connector never sees past its own request.

Kill Switch02

One switch stops every agent. Instantly.

One action deactivates every Connector, revokes every token, and ends every session at once. AI Governance keeps the record.

FinOps per User03

Spending limits that pause instead of surprise.

Every user keeps their own connections and credentials, isolated from everyone else. Anything that would cross your spending limit is held for your approval, not billed.

Three controls, built into the layer your AI connects through.

Complete set · 5 capabilities

The complete CDC Open Data capability set.

These are the exact actions your AI can choose when you ask it to work with CDC Open Data.

Capability set01 / 02

01-03

3 capabilities in this set.

Part of 5 available through CDC Open Data.

  1. 01

    List diseases

This capability provides the exact names of all diseases currently tracked by the CDC's weekly surveillance system.

  2. 02

    Disease baseline

This capability answers if current disease levels are unusual by comparing the latest week to the 52-week maximum and YTD totals to the same period last year.

  3. 03

    Disease trend

Use this to see the shape of a disease curve by retrieving weekly case counts for a specific disease over a set number of weeks.

Capability set02 / 02

04-05

2 capabilities in this set.

Part of 5 available through CDC Open Data.

  1. 04

    State scan

This capability ranks all reporting areas by case count for a specific disease to show where cases are most concentrated.

  2. 05

    Surge check

This capability detects spikes by comparing the latest weekly count against the average of previous weeks to return a surge, elevated, or normal verdict.

One connector, every AI

CDC Open Data works with the most popular AI clients.

These are the most popular clients, each with a step-by-step guide: one link, set up once, with governance and visibility built in. And because everything runs on the MCP standard, the same connection also works in any other compatible client — nothing to rebuild.

Building your own app? The connector is yours to use.

You don't need a client to put CDC Open Data to work: the same hosted connection plugs into your own applications and agent code, with the same governance on every request. Build with it, chat with it — one connection for both.

Connect your client

One URL. Every client.

Activate the Connector, copy your link, and paste it into the client you already use. 5 capabilities arrive ready to run.

Preview access · not provider authentication

The vk_preview_* token belongs to Vinkius preview infrastructure. It lets Claude discover and display the capabilities of CDC Open Data, so you can see the experience inside your AI.

It does not authenticate your account with CDC Open Data. Actions requiring credentials or live account data may not run until you activate the Connector and authorize the service.

Who it's for

Built for the work CDC Open Data owners hand off.

This MCP is built for professionals who need to monitor public health shifts without manual data entry.

  • 01

    Public Health Analysts

They use the capability to pull reproducible weekly series and official CDC flags.

  • 02

    Journalists

They use it to verify if a headline about a disease spike is backed by real-time data.

  • 03

    Automation Developers

They build scheduled disease pulse digests using server-side delta calculations.

FAQ

Questions CDC Open Data owners ask.

  • 01

Do I need a CDC account to use this MCP?

No. The MCP uses public CDC open data, so no credentials or accounts are required.

  • 02

How does the surge detection work?

The surge check compares the most recent weekly count against the average of the previous weeks to determine if the activity is normal, elevated, or a surge.

  • 03

Can I check data for a specific state?

Yes. You can use the state scan or specific disease capabilities to look at national, state, or census region data.

  • 04

    Is the data real-time?

The MCP pulls from the latest weekly NNDSS case counts provided by the CDC.

  • 05

What happens if there are no cases reported?

The trend capability shows no data for weeks without reported cases rather than assuming a zero.

  • 06

    Do I need credentials?

No. The dataset is public CDC open data on Socrata, readable without a token (anonymous access is throttled and capped at 500 rows per query. every capability stays well under that). No signup, no key, no per-user state.

  • 07

How does the surge detector decide "surge"?

It divides the latest week's reported cases by the average of the previous N weeks (default 12, configurable). At or above the threshold multiplier (default 2.0) it reports a surge; at half the threshold it reports elevated; special cases (no cases this week, or a baseline with zero cases) are called out explicitly instead of producing a division artifact.

  • 08

Why do the capabilities insist on "exact" disease and area names?

The CDC portal's query engine only matches values exactly (fuzzy matching silently returns nothing), so list_diseases returns the exact labels to copy, and state_scan returns the exact area names. follow-up calls just copy one of them instead of guessing. If a name doesn't match you get an error that says so, never an empty silent answer.

  • 09

    What data is behind it?

CDC's NNDSS weekly surveillance: reported notifiable-disease case counts per MMWR week, per geography (national, regions, states, New York City), plus the dataset's own 52-week maximum and YTD comparators. Weeks without reported cases are shown as "no data", not as zeros. MMWR years run July-to-June.
