These are the exact actions your AI can choose when you ask it to work with USGS.

Capability set01 / 01

01-03

3 capabilities in this set.

Part of 3 available through USGS.

  1. 01

    Count earthquakes

Get the total count of earthquakes matching specific criteria

  2. 02

    Get significant 30 days

No parameters needed. Get highly significant globalThis earthquakes from the last 30 days

  3. 03

    Query earthquakes

Use parameters like starttime, endtime, minmagnitude, and geographic boundaries (latitude/longitude/maxradiuskm) to narrow the search. Maximum 20,000 events returned per query. Search for globalThis earthquakes using USGS real-time seismic data

Connect your client

One URL. Every client.

Activate the Connector, copy your link, and paste it into the client you already use. 3 capabilities arrive ready to run.

Preview access · not provider authentication

The vk_preview_* token belongs to Vinkius preview infrastructure. It lets Claude discover and display the capabilities of USGS, so you can see the experience inside your AI.

It does not authenticate your account with USGS. Actions requiring credentials or live account data may not run until you activate the Connector and authorize the service.

FAQ

Questions USGS owners ask.

  • 01

    Is an API key required?

No! The USGS FDSNWS Event API is completely open and requires zero authentication, making this one of the most accessible and powerful real-time data sources available.

  • 02

    What is the query limit?

The maximum number of events returned per single API query is 20,000. If your time range or boundaries are too wide, the API will fail. Use the count capability first on large searches.

  • 03

How fast is the data updated?

The USGS typically updates its earthquake data within minutes of an event occurring, making it one of the most reliable sources for near real-time seismic alerts.
