How to stop running processes with your AI

Connect Concord to your AI client to gain direct control over active executions. You can identify hung tasks and kill them using natural language commands.

Ask AI about this page

Short answer

How can I stop a running process using my AI?

You tell your AI which process is causing trouble, and it uses Concord to find the exact execution ID and shut it down. This stops runaway deployments or stuck tasks without you needing to hunt through terminal logs manually.

Immediate control over your executions.

Where every issue lands.

Once connected, your AI acts as a bridge between your chat interface and your active process list.

IDENTIFY

Find runaway tasks

The AI scans your current environment to see what is actually running. You get a clear list of active process IDs and their status.

TERMINATE

Kill stuck deployments

When a process hangs, your AI sends the command to stop it instantly. This clears up resources and stops errors from cascading.

VERIFY

Confirm process death

After a kill command, the AI checks the list again to ensure the process is actually gone. You get confirmation that the system is clean.

MANUAL

Human intervention

If a process refuses to die or requires a hard reboot, the AI will flag it. You decide when to step in and handle the system manually.

The workflow

What your AI does when <the thing arrives>.

The AI handles the heavy lifting of searching and signaling, leaving you to just give the orders.

  1. Scan active tasks

The AI pulls a real-time snapshot of everything currently executing in your environment.

  2. Identify the target

It matches your description of the stuck or heavy task to a specific process ID.

    list_running_processes
  3. Execute the kill

The AI sends a direct instruction to stop the specific execution you identified.

    terminate_process
  4. Validate results

The AI re-scans the environment to make sure the process is no longer consuming resources.

FAQ

How this task behaves.

  • 01

Can the AI restart a process after killing it?

No. This MCP only has the tools to list and terminate processes. You must trigger a restart through your own deployment tools.

  • 02

Will the AI accidentally kill my entire system?

No. The AI works by identifying specific process IDs. It won't perform a bulk shutdown unless you explicitly tell it to target multiple specific processes.

  • 03

Does the AI need my root password?

No. The connection is handled through the MCP, and your sensitive credentials stay encrypted and managed by Vinkius.

  • 04

Can the AI see processes running on my local laptop?

The AI can only see processes within the environments where you have configured the Concord MCP to operate.

  • 05

What happens if a process is stuck in a zombie state?

If the terminate_process tool cannot clear the process, the AI will inform you that the command failed, and you will need to handle it manually.
