Short answer
How can I get my signed documents through my AI?
Your agent uses Dropbox Sign tools to fetch either a direct download URL or the raw Base64 data for any completed document. You'll get the specific file format you need to save or process the contract. Here is how the data moves.
The results.
Where your files land.
The AI handles the retrieval and hands you the data in the format you need.
URL
Direct download links
The AI grabs a secure URL. You get a link that lets you download the file directly from Dropbox Sign.
DATA
Raw Base64 strings
If you need to process the file immediately, the AI pulls the Base64 data. This works well for passing content to other tools.
HUMAN
Manual review
You decide which documents are ready. The AI only pulls files you specifically ask for or that meet your criteria.
STORAGE
Local or cloud saving
Once the AI provides the link or data, you can save the document to your computer or move it to another service.
The workflow
What your AI does when a document is completed.
The AI acts as the bridge between your signed contracts and your local files.
Identify the file
Your agent looks through your Dropbox Sign account to find the specific completed document you mentioned.
get_files_download_urlGenerate a link

How the retrieval works
- 01
Can my AI delete signed documents?
No. The current tools only allow the AI to retrieve download URLs and Base64 data. It cannot delete or modify files in Dropbox Sign.
- 02
Can the AI send the document to an email address?
No. The AI can provide you with the link or the data, but you have to be the one to send the email or upload the file elsewhere.
- 03
Do I need to provide the document ID every time?
Not necessarily. If you describe the document clearly, your agent can find it, though providing an ID is the fastest way.
- 04
Is the download link secure?
Yes. The AI uses the get_files_download_url tool to generate a specific link for that file.
- 05
Can the AI see documents that haven't been signed yet?
The AI can see any document in your account, but the tools described here are specifically for retrieving data from completed files.
