Short answer
Can I automate sprint planning with my AI?
Yes. Your AI uses GitScrum Sprints to pull stories from your backlog and place them into newly created sprints. You'll get a structured sprint ready for development without manual clicking.
Planning outcomes
Where your work lands.
The AI handles the heavy lifting of moving data between your backlog and active sprints.
SPRINT
New sprints created
The AI uses create_sprint to set up your next work cycle. You get a clean, empty sprint ready for assignments.
BACKLOG
Stories identified
Your agent uses list_user_stories to scan your backlog. It finds the specific tasks you want to pull forward.
PLAN
Stories populated
The AI moves the selected items into the new sprint. Your sprint is now full of the right work.
HUMAN
Review and finalize
The AI doesn't decide what's important. You look over the populated sprint to make sure the priority is right.
The workflow
What your AI does when the request arrives.
The AI acts as a bridge between your backlog and your sprint schedule.
Scan the backlog
Your agent looks through your existing user stories to find what needs to be moved.
list_user_storiesInitialize the sprint
The AI sets up a fresh sprint container in your project.

How the automation works
- 01
Can the AI delete stories from my backlog?
No. The AI can only list, create, and move stories. It cannot delete any existing data.
- 02
Does the AI decide which stories go into a sprint?
No. You tell the AI which stories to pick or what criteria to use. The final decision stays with you.
- 03
Can I use this with Claude or Cursor?
Yes. Any MCP-compatible client works once you've connected the Connector.
- 04
Can the AI edit existing story descriptions?
No. The current tools only allow for listing, creating sprints, and creating new stories.
- 05
Will the AI create a sprint if I don't specify a name?
The AI will attempt to name it logically, but it's best to provide a specific name in your prompt.
