How to manage webhook traffic flow with your AI

Connect Hookdeck to your AI client to give it direct control over your event routing. You can stop incoming traffic or shut down specific sources the moment things get messy.

Ask AI about this page

Short answer

How can my AI control webhook traffic?

Your AI uses Hookdeck tools to pause connections or disable specific sources when it detects traffic spikes or errors. This prevents your downstream services from crashing under heavy loads. You get immediate control over your event flow through simple chat commands.

Traffic control outcomes

Where traffic shifts land.

What happens when your AI takes action.

PROTECTION

Stop the flood

The AI uses pause_connection to halt traffic to a specific endpoint. This keeps your database or API from being hit by a sudden surge of events.

ISOLATION

Cut off bad sources

If a specific provider is sending junk, the AI can use disable_source to stop that specific stream. This keeps the rest of your traffic moving normally.

RECOVERY

Resume normal flow

Once you've fixed the issue, the AI uses enable_source or unpause_connection to bring your traffic back online. It restores the routing exactly where it left off.

MANUAL

Human oversight

The AI won't make major structural changes to your routing logic. You still decide which connections are permanent and which sources are trusted.

The workflow

What your AI does when traffic spikes.

The AI monitors your webhook health and acts as a circuit breaker.

  1. Identify the source

The AI identifies that a specific source is sending too many requests or causing errors in your system.

    disable_source
  2. Halt the connection

To prevent a total system failure, the AI stops all traffic for a specific connection to protect your downstream API.

    pause_connection
  3. Restore the flow

After you confirm the downstream service is stable, the AI brings the traffic back through the connection or source.

    unpause_connectionenable_source
  4. Re-enable connections

If a connection was fully shut down, the AI can bring it back into an active state.

    enable_connection

  • Disable the Stripe source in Hookdeck because it's sending too many retries.

  • Pause the connection for my Shopify webhooks until I finish the database migration.

  • Unpause the connection for the main production webhook.

  • Enable the source for the legacy payment gateway.

FAQ

How the traffic management works

  • 01

Can the AI delete my webhook connections?

No. The AI can only pause, unpause, disable, or enable connections and sources.

  • 02

Will the AI automatically fix my code?

No. The AI manages the flow of data through Hookdeck, but it cannot modify your application code or downstream logic.

  • 03

Can I use this to stop a DDoS attack?

Yes, by using the tool to disable the source or pause the connection, you can stop the incoming flood from hitting your servers.

  • 04

Does the AI decide when to unpause a connection?

The AI only performs the unpause action when you tell it to or when it follows your specific instructions to restore service.

  • 05

Can the AI see the actual payload of my webhooks?

No. The AI only has the ability to control the connection and source states via the provided tools.
