Short answer
How can I export QuestDB results using my AI?
Your AI uses the export_data tool to run your SQL queries and save the output as Parquet or CSV files. You get clean, structured files ready for your reporting tools or local analysis.
Where your data lands.
The outcomes of your request.
The AI handles the heavy lifting of querying and formatting.
FILE
Local Parquet files
The AI runs the export_data tool to package your time-series results into compressed Parquet files. These are perfect for high-performance analysis in Python or R.
FILE
Standard CSV files
Get your query results in CSV format for quick viewing in Excel or Google Sheets. The AI handles the conversion from the database output automatically.
REPORT
External analysis
Once the files are generated, you can move them into your existing BI tools or data science environments. The AI prepares the data so it's ready to use immediately.
HUMAN
Final data review
You decide if the exported data meets your requirements. The AI provides the files, but you perform the final validation and interpretation of the results.
The workflow
What your AI does when you request an export.
The AI acts as the bridge between your QuestDB instance and your local file system.
Query the database
Your AI translates your natural language request into a valid SQL query for QuestDB. It targets the specific time-series tables you need.
export_dataFormat the output
The AI takes the raw rows from the database and structures them into your chosen file type. It ensures the schema matches your request.
export_dataGenerate the file
The tool writes the data into a Parquet or CSV file. This process handles the conversion from the database stream to a physical file.
export_dataConfirm delivery
The AI lets you know the export is complete and provides the details of the file it created. You can then download or move the file as needed.

How the export process behaves
- 01
Can the AI change my database schema?
No. The AI only has permission to read data and export it. It cannot modify, delete, or create new tables in QuestDB.
- 02
What file formats can I use?
You can export your results as either Parquet or CSV files.
- 03
Can the AI automatically upload these files to my S3 bucket?
No. The AI uses the export_data tool to create the files. You are responsible for moving those files to other storage locations after they are generated.
- 04
Does the AI handle the SQL writing for me?
Yes. You can describe the data you want in plain English, and the AI will write and execute the SQL query to get those results.
- 05
Can I export massive datasets?
The export depends on the limits of your AI client and the export_data tool. For extremely large datasets, you should check your specific environment's memory and timeout constraints.
