How to manage Snowflake SQL queries with your AI

Connect your Snowflake account once to give your AI direct control over your database operations. You can run queries and manage active sessions without leaving your chat window.

Ask AI about this page

Short answer

How can I run and manage Snowflake queries through my AI?

Your AI uses specific tools to execute SQL, monitor how long a query has been running, and stop any process that is consuming too many resources. You'll get immediate results and control over your active sessions.

Direct database control.

Where your queries land.

The AI handles the heavy lifting of interacting with Snowflake so you can focus on the data.

EXECUTION

Run SQL commands

The AI sends your SQL statements to Snowflake. You get the results back in your chat window immediately.

MONITORING

Track query status

The AI checks if a query is still running or if it has finished. You'll know exactly where your long-running tasks stand.

CONTROL

Stop runaway queries

If a query is taking too long or hitting resource limits, your AI can kill the process. This prevents unnecessary credit consumption.

HUMAN

Review and verify

You remain the decision maker. The AI proposes the SQL or the action, but you decide when to hit enter or stop a process.

The workflow

What your AI does when a query request arrives.

The AI acts as a bridge between your natural language instructions and the Snowflake engine.

  1. Execute the command

The AI translates your request into a valid SQL statement and sends it to the database.

    execute_sql
  2. Check progress

The AI monitors the execution to see if the query is still active or if it has completed successfully.

    get_statement_status
  3. Identify issues

The AI looks at the status to determine if a query is stuck or behaving unexpectedly.

    get_statement_status
  4. Terminate processes

If you tell the AI to stop a specific query, it sends a command to kill that session.

    cancel_sql

Starting points

These are basic examples. You should replace the table names and query details with your actual Snowflake schema.

FAQ

How the Snowflake Connector behaves

  • 01

Can the AI delete my tables?

No. The AI only has the tools to execute SQL, check status, and cancel queries. It cannot perform administrative tasks like dropping tables unless you explicitly write a DROP command in your prompt.

  • 02

How do I know if a query is still running?

You can simply ask your AI to check the status of your last statement. It will use the status tool to tell you if the query is running, succeeded, or failed.

  • 03

Will the AI automatically stop a query if it takes too long?

No. The AI will not take independent action to stop a query. You must tell the AI to cancel the process if you notice it is running too long.

  • 04

Can I use this to manage my Snowflake warehouse settings?

No. This Connector is limited to executing SQL, checking statement status, and canceling queries. It does not have tools to modify warehouse sizes or configurations.

  • 05

Does the AI see all my data?

The AI only sees the data returned by the specific SQL queries you ask it to run. It does not have an open window into your entire database.
