Share tool access across your team

This MCP server connects Copilot to your ArborNote account. By adding the server config to a `.vscode/mcp.json` file and committing it to your repo, every developer on your team gets the same set of tools automatically. No individual setup required. Now, anyone on the team can ask Copilot to pull a client list with `list_arbornote_clients` or update a record with `update_arbornote_client`. It standardizes how your team interacts with your core business data.

Write code with real project context

When you're building software that interacts with ArborNote, Copilot can use live data. Ask it to "get the details for project #123," and it will use `get_arbornote_project` to fetch the real data. This stops you from having to code against stale or mock information. The same goes for your sales pipeline. The agent can use `list_arbornote_proposals` to see what's pending or `get_arbornote_proposal` for specifics. It gives Copilot the context it needs to generate more accurate, relevant code.

Your Team's ArborNote MCP Server

Go beyond just looking up data. Use the `create_arbornote_client` tool directly from the chat panel to add new clients to your system without leaving your editor. It’s a small change that saves a lot of context switching. You can also build operational awareness right into your dev environment. Ask Copilot to check on system health with `check_api_health` or review financial summaries with `get_arbornote_metrics`. It brings key business data into the place where you build the tools to manage it.

Setup guide

Set up ArborNote MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the ArborNote MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the ArborNote tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent ArborNote transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about ArborNote MCP in VS Code Copilot

The best way is to create a `.vscode/mcp.json` file in your project's root and commit it to Git. Add the ArborNote MCP Server configuration there. Every developer who pulls the repo will have the tools enabled for Copilot automatically.
Yes. The `create_arbornote_client` and `update_arbornote_client` tools allow Copilot, on your command, to add or modify client records directly in your ArborNote system.
Speed and context. You don't have to write API client code. You just ask Copilot in plain English, and it handles calling the tool and formatting the output, often directly into the code you're writing.
Yes. The connection is managed through the Vinkius platform, which is built for enterprise security. Combined with VS Code's team-based configuration, you can roll out access in a controlled, auditable way.
Your data privacy is critical. When Copilot uses a tool, the request for a client list or project file is sent through a secure, zero-trust Vinkius server. This server doesn't store your data; it just brokers the request to ArborNote and returns the response to you.
