Agents Pulling Work from Azure

You assign one specific agent the role of queue watcher. It executes `pull_message` to grab the next available payload from the bus. The moment that data enters the chat, the lock timer starts. The worker broadcasts the payload to the rest of the AutoGen group for analysis.

Consensus-Driven Processing

This is where things get interesting. A security agent might analyze the payload for risks while a database agent checks for existing records. They argue about the right path forward. Only when the agents reach a consensus does the system take action. They negotiate the outcome before deciding whether to commit the results to your backend.

AutoGen MCP Server Integration

Once the group agrees the job is done, the designated worker calls `acknowledge_message`. It feeds the messageId and lockToken back to Azure to delete the item. Setting this up requires autogen-ext[mcp]. The McpToolAdapter automatically translates the queue tools into native AutoGen capabilities, letting your agents focus on the debate rather than schema formatting.

Setup guide

Set up Azure Service Bus Queue MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Azure Service Bus Queue tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Azure Service Bus Queue_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Azure Service Bus Queue data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Azure Service Bus Queue MCP in AutoGen

Use mcp_server_tools with a StreamableHttpServerParams pointing to your Vinkius URL. Pass the resulting tool list to your AssistantAgent.
Dedicate a specific worker agent to handle queue operations. This prevents multiple agents from trying to grab or acknowledge the same payload simultaneously.
The lock expires and Azure releases the message back to the queue. You should tune your lock durations to match the expected length of agent negotiations.
Yes. If the group decides the payload is invalid or they cannot process it, they can simply let the lock expire.
Vinkius processes your raw JSON message bodies and lock tokens strictly in memory. Every request spins up a fresh, isolated execution context. Once the HTTP connection drops, the memory clears completely. We log metrics, never your payloads.
