Build Components with Live Data
This isn't just about fetching data; it's about what Cline does with it. Give Cline a task like, 'Build a React component to display the latest orders'. It will use `cdata_execute_query` to get the order data from your database, then write the actual component code, import statements and all. Cline handles the entire workflow. It finds the right data source with `cdata_list_connections`, inspects the schema with `cdata_get_table_columns`, pulls the data, and writes the code that uses it. You get a working file, not just a JSON blob.
Manage Data Sources from Your Editor
You don't have to leave VS Code to manage your CData configuration. Tell Cline to add a new data source, and it will use the `cdata_create_connection` tool to set it up. It can also list your current workspaces and connections with `cdata_list_workspaces` and `cdata_list_connections`. This MCP Server turns Cline into a data operations center. You can ask it to check if a connection is active using `cdata_test_connection`. Cline will run the check and confirm its status right in the chat, saving you a trip to a dashboard.
Generate Typed Code from Your Schema
Cline can use the schema information from CData to write better, safer code. When it inspects a table with `cdata_get_table_columns`, it gets the exact column names and data types. This means it can generate typed interfaces or classes for your data models automatically. This goes way beyond simple data fetching. You can ask Cline to 'create a TypeScript interface for the users table,' and it will use the schema tools to get the structure and then write the code. It's a huge time-saver and reduces errors.
