How to Use the Censys MCP in AutoGen
Let your AutoGen agent teams debate Censys findings to reach consensus on security priorities.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Censys MCP to AutoGen
Create your Vinkius account to connect Censys to AutoGen and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
A Security Analyst Team in a Box
Set up a team of AutoGen agents to mimic a security operations center. One agent, the 'Scanner', uses `search_hosts` to find all internet-facing servers. It passes the IP list to the 'Analyst' agent, which uses `get_host` to check for risky ports on each one. The agents then discuss the findings. The Analyst might flag a server with an open Telnet port. A 'Prioritizer' agent can then argue that a server with an expiring certificate found via `search_certificates` is a bigger fire to put out. They work together to produce a ranked list of risks.
Debate Infrastructure Changes
Task an agent to be the 'Watcher'. Its only job is to periodically run `get_host_history` on your most critical IP addresses. When it detects a change, it doesn't just send an alert. It starts a conversation. The Watcher presents its findings to a 'Diff' agent, which runs `view_host_diff` to get the specifics. A 'Security' agent joins the chat to determine if the change—a new service or a different banner—introduces a vulnerability. This multi-agent conversation ensures changes don't go unnoticed or unvetted.
Your AutoGen Agents Manage Certificates
Create a simple two-agent team for certificate management. The 'Auditor' agent's job is to run `search_certificates` to find certs expiring soon. When it finds one, it tells the 'Operator' agent. The Operator agent takes the certificate fingerprint and uses `get_certificate_hosts` to find every single host using that cert. The two agents can then present a complete report: 'This certificate is expiring in 10 days, and it will affect these 15 servers.' This makes remediation faster and less error-prone. It's a clear assignment for your MCP-powered team.
Set up Censys MCP in AutoGen
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]package - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install AutoGen with MCP
Run
pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includesmcp_server_toolsfor stateless tool access. - 2
Fetch tools from the MCP
Call
mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...))with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Run your agent
Pass the tools to
AssistantAgentand callagent.run(). The agent invokes Censys tools and returns structured results.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="Censys_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
tools=tools,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent Censys data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]+autogen-agentchat - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install dependencies
Same packages as above.
McpWorkbenchis ideal when your agent needs stateful sessions across multiple tool calls. - 2
Use McpWorkbench as context manager
Wrap your agent in
async with McpWorkbench(...)to maintain shared state and resources. The workbench manages the full MCP session lifecycle. - 3
Run with workbench
Pass
workbench=workbenchto your agent. State is preserved across multiple tool calls within the same session.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import McpWorkbench, SseServerParams
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
async with McpWorkbench(server_params) as workbench:
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="Censys_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
workbench=workbench,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent Censys data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Independent Platform Disclaimer: Vinkius is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, verified by, or otherwise authorized by Censys.
