Key Capabilities

Decompose and Standardize Chords

The `parse_chord_string` tool converts a standard chord name string into structured data. This is essential for team consistency, ensuring every developer uses the same method to identify roots and intervals from raw input. The resulting standardized format prevents arguments about notation ambiguity; it’s just clean, predictable JSON that everyone in the team can rely on.

Analyze Function and Arrangement

When building a scoring engine, you need to know the function. `determine_harmonic_role` identifies the harmonic role of a chord within a given key. You'll also use `generate_voicings`, which arranges notes into specific 'closed' or 'open' textures, helping team members write more musically cohesive code. It’s all about shared, predictable musical logic.

Calculate All Bass Permutations

Never forget an inversion again. The `get_chord_inversions` tool calculates every possible chord permutation based on which note serves as the bass. This function is perfect for enterprise development, where team members need a single source of truth regarding harmonic options. The MCP server makes this complex structural data available via your shared configuration.

Setup guide

Set up Chord Constructor MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Chord Constructor MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Chord Constructor tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Chord Constructor transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
