Autonomous reranking for Cline

Cline can trigger the `rerank` tool to sort documentation before writing code. It takes your query and narrows down a massive list of files to the ones that matter. This stops your agent from hallucinating based on outdated or irrelevant documentation. It ensures the files Cline reads are actually the ones that solve the problem at hand.

Generate embeddings with Cline

The `embed` tool lets Cline create semantic vectors for your local project files. This allows the agent to build its own search index for finding relevant code patterns. By generating these vectors on the fly, Cline can perform smarter lookups. It turns raw text files into searchable data that the agent understands.

Monitor model usage in Cline

Use `list_models` to check which Command or Embed models are currently live. Cline uses this to decide which model version fits the complexity of your specific coding task. It avoids errors caused by using deprecated or incompatible model IDs. You always know exactly what the agent is hitting under the hood.

Prerequisites

  • VS Code with Cline extension installed

Click the Cline icon in the VS Code sidebar to open the Cline panel. Then click the MCP Servers icon (server stack) at the top-right corner of the panel.

  2. 2

    Add a remote server

Click "Remote Servers" at the top, then click "Add Remote MCP". In the Name field, type cohere-mcp. In the URL field, paste your Vinkius endpoint: https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp. Get your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable the server

After saving, the server appears in the Cline MCP panel. Toggle the switch to enable it. The status indicator turns green when the connection is live.

Common questions about Cohere MCP in Cline

Cline calls the `chat` tool to get model-generated code or explanations. It treats these outputs as direct instructions to create files or run terminal commands.
Absolutely, Cline can chain the `rerank` tool to filter large sets of documents. It makes the agent much more efficient at finding the right file for a bug fix.
It provides Cline with better context via embeddings and reranking. The agent makes fewer mistakes because it has a clearer view of your project's intent.
Your source code is never indexed by the provider. The `embed` tool only processes the specific strings Cline sends during its execution cycle, and those are encrypted in transit.
Go to the MCP Servers tab in Cline and add the server by its URL. Once connected, the tools show up in the agent's available capability list.
