AutoGen consensus-driven logic

Deploy multiple agents to debate the best way to handle an order. One agent might call `get_order`, while another evaluates if the shipment needs a priority update. They challenge each other's assumptions until they reach a decision. This prevents impulsive actions by forcing the agents to verify the data first.

Automated schema conversion

The `McpToolAdapter` handles all the heavy lifting for your AutoGen agents. It maps the Commerce Layer tools into a format the agents understand immediately. You don't write boilerplate code to define tool schemas. Just connect the server and let the agents start their conversation using `search_orders_by_email`.

Multi-agent negotiation

Set up a performance agent and a security agent to check your Commerce Layer operations. They negotiate the trade-offs between speed and data validation. If the security agent flags a suspicious order found via `search_orders_by_email`, the team stops execution. It creates a robust system where no single agent acts alone.

Setup guide

Set up Commerce Layer MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Commerce Layer tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Commerce Layer_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Commerce Layer data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Commerce Layer MCP in AutoGen

You pass the tool list to the `AssistantAgent` constructor. The agents then negotiate who is best suited to call `list_orders` based on their assigned roles.
You can. Agents can call `list_skus` and discuss the results in the chat, allowing them to formulate a consensus before taking action.
It supports both stdio and Streamable HTTP. You configure the `StreamableHttpServerParams` with your endpoint, and the agents connect to Commerce Layer securely.
It reduces errors. When agents have to justify their tool calls to each other, you get a higher quality of decision-making for complex tasks.
Every agent conversation happens in a sandboxed, ephemeral environment. Your order data is accessed via a single-use token and is never written to persistent logs.
