How to Use the Filebase (Web3 Storage) MCP in Claude
Pin IPFS files and manage IPNS keys directly from Claude Desktop.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Filebase (Web3 Storage) MCP to Claude Desktop
Create your Vinkius account to connect Filebase (Web3 Storage) to Claude Desktop and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Pin CIDs to IPFS from your Claude Desktop chat
This MCP Server lets your AI client pin decentralized assets directly to Filebase using standard pinning tools. You feed Claude Desktop a raw hash, and it triggers `psa_add_pin` or `rpc_pin_add` to secure your files across the network without you opening a browser or writing a bash script. If you need to swap out an old asset, the agent runs `psa_replace_pin` to update your references. It keeps your IPFS storage organized right from your local Claude Desktop chat window.
Publish and update IPNS names locally
The server exposes IPNS routing tools to Claude Desktop so you can manage mutable pointers to your static IPFS content. Your agent can run `rpc_name_publish` or `platform_update_name` to map new CIDs to existing keys instantly. You don't have to keep track of raw hashes in your head. Claude Desktop calls `rpc_name_resolve` to verify where your pointers land, keeping your decentralized links accurate and updated.
Track storage metrics inside Claude Desktop
This toolset lets Claude Desktop fetch live bandwidth and storage usage directly from your Filebase buckets. Your agent uses `platform_get_usage` and `platform_get_bucket_usage` to pull real-time byte counts into your conversation. Instead of guessing your decentralized storage costs, you get raw numbers. Claude Desktop monitors these metrics directly so you know when to spin up new gateways with `platform_create_gateway`.
