Stream Ghost CMS data with Vercel AI SDK

The Ghost MCP server gives your Vercel AI SDK application direct read access to your CMS database. You call `list_published_posts` and the results stream straight into your React frontend without a loading spinner. Your users see the content populate exactly as the AI retrieves it. You don't need to build custom fetch wrappers. Pass the tools to `streamText` and let the agent pull specific articles using `get_post_by_slug`. The integration handles the data flow while you focus on the user interface.

Audit tags and authors live

Your AI client maps out your entire publication taxonomy using `list_content_tags` and `list_blog_authors`. It pulls the data, reads the metadata, and formats it for your frontend components. You get an instant overview of who writes what. Drill down into specific creators with `get_author_details` or inspect category performance with `get_tag_details`. Because this runs at the edge, the latency stays low while your agent builds dynamic dashboards from your Ghost instance.

Extract site settings and tiers

Build paywall interfaces dynamically by pulling `list_subscription_tiers` and `get_site_settings`. Your agent reads the current configuration of your Ghost site and streams the correct pricing data into your Next.js components. Before the agent tries to fetch heavy payloads, it runs `verify_api_connection` to confirm the endpoint is alive. If the site is down, the SDK handles the error gracefully instead of hanging the user's browser.

Setup guide

Set up Ghost MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • ai + @modelcontextprotocol/sdk packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install ai @modelcontextprotocol/sdk plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Create the Streamable HTTP transport

    Use StreamableHTTPClientTransport with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and use tools

    Call mcpClient.tools() to auto-discover all Ghost tools. Pass them directly to generateText() or streamText() — no manual schema definitions needed.

  4. 4

    Works with any model provider

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK provider — Anthropic, Google, Mistral. The MCP tools work identically across all supported models.

index.ts
import { experimental_createMCPClient as createMCPClient } from "ai";
import { StreamableHTTPClientTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/streamableHttp";
import { generateText } from "ai";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const transport = new StreamableHTTPClientTransport(
  new URL("https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp")
);

const mcpClient = await createMCPClient({ transport });
const tools = await mcpClient.tools();

const { text } = await generateText({
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  tools,
  prompt: "List recent Ghost transactions",
});

console.log(text);
await mcpClient.close();

Common questions about Ghost MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Install @ai-sdk/mcp and initialize the client with createMCPClient. Pass the transport URL, call mcpClient.tools(), and feed the results into streamText. Always call mcpClient.close() when the session ends.
No. This integration is strictly read-only. Your agent can read articles, list authors, and check tags, but it cannot publish or edit content.
The MCP standard formats the tools specifically for AI agents. Instead of writing custom API handlers, you give your agent immediate access to read your blog's structure natively.
Yes. You can run the Vercel AI SDK client in edge environments. It connects to the host via HTTP transport and streams the responses back to the user.
Your agent only reads the data you explicitly request, like subscription configurations via `list_subscription_tiers`. The Vinkius V8 Isolate Sandbox executes the request in a zero-trust, ephemeral environment. Tokens are never stored permanently, and the sandbox dies the moment the execution finishes.
