Chain GitGuardian MCP Server Into Agent Workflows

This GitGuardian MCP Server uses `scan_content` to stop hardcoded credentials before they hit your repositories. Your agent runs this check as an inline step in any deployment chain. If a leak pops up, the chain doesn't just halt. It triggers `scan_and_create_incidents` to log the threat immediately. You can trace the entire execution in LangSmith to see exactly which code blocks triggered the scan. Your agent handles the logic, while GitGuardian does the heavy lifting of parsing high-entropy strings without slowing down your CI pipeline.

Automated Incident Triage and Resolution

Your agent uses `list_secret_incidents` to pull active alerts and begin automated threat investigation. By evaluating the severity of each leak, the agent can use `assign_secret_incident` to route the ticket to the right team member. This stops security teams from drowning in alert noise. The agent can even run `resolve_secret_incident` once a developer rotates the compromised key, keeping your workspace clean without manual ticket pushing.

Decoy Deployment via LangChain Chains

Your agent deploys active defense traps by calling `create_honeytoken` to generate decoy credentials. It places these decoy keys into dummy configuration files across your environments. If an attacker tries to use them, you'll know instantly. The agent monitors these traps by querying `list_honeytoken_events`, turning a passive security posture into an active counter-operation.

Setup guide

Set up GitGuardian MCP in LangChain

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • langchain-mcp-adapters + langgraph packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install langchain-mcp-adapters langgraph langchain-openai. The MCP adapters package converts MCP tools into native LangChain BaseTool objects.

  2. 2

    Connect via HTTP transport

    Use MultiServerMCPClient with "transport": "http" pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create a ReAct agent

    Pass the discovered tools to create_react_agent() from LangGraph. The agent automatically routes GitGuardian tool calls through the MCP protocol.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Swap ChatOpenAI for ChatAnthropic, ChatGoogleGenerativeAI, or any LangChain-compatible model. The MCP tools work identically across all providers.

agent.py
from langchain_mcp_adapters.client import MultiServerMCPClient
from langgraph.prebuilt import create_react_agent
from langchain_openai import ChatOpenAI

async with MultiServerMCPClient({
    "gitguardian-mcp": {
        "transport": "http",
        "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp",
    }
}) as client:
    tools = client.get_tools()

    agent = create_react_agent(
        ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
        tools,
    )
    result = await agent.ainvoke({
        "messages": "List recent GitGuardian transactions"
    })
    print(result["messages"][-1].content)

Common questions about GitGuardian MCP in LangChain

Install `langchain-mcp-adapters` and use `MultiServerMCPClient` pointing to our hosted endpoint. Call `client.get_tools()` to import all 49 tools and pass them directly to your ReAct agent.
The server relays GitGuardian API responses directly. If you hit a 429 error during intensive `scan_content` calls, you should configure your LangChain runnable with exponential backoff.
Vinkius hosts this MCP server in an isolated sandbox. Your GG_API_KEY is injected securely via environment variables and is never exposed to the LLM or stored in your LangChain tracing logs.
Yes. Your agent can call `list_secret_incidents` to retrieve details and then apply `create_custom_tag` to label critical leaks, helping your security team focus on high-priority fixes.
The server only touches your source code snippets during `scan_content` runs and metadata from `list_secret_incidents`. We run this in a zero-trust, ephemeral sandbox, meaning your raw code and secret payloads are discarded immediately after the scan completes.
