Standardize team typography in VS Code Copilot

Keep your entire engineering team aligned on the same font assets. By adding this MCP Server to your repository's configuration file, every developer using VS Code Copilot gets instant access to `list_all_fonts` to verify approved font families. No more mismatched font weights across different feature branches. Copilot uses the shared server to fetch uniform metadata, ensuring that every developer builds with the exact same typography specifications.

Fetch exact font details in your editor

When writing styling code, your VS Code Copilot chat can fetch the exact files and subsets you need. The agent calls `get_font_details` to pull down the exact URLs and formats for your web fonts. This integration prevents manual copy-pasting from web browsers. Copilot reads the raw JSON response and drops the correct font definitions straight into your active VS Code editor window.

Verify font registry availability

Ensure your build pipeline won't break due to external downtime. Your team can use VS Code Copilot to trigger `check_api_status` and verify that the Google Fonts registry is responsive before deploying major UI updates. If you are troubleshooting a broken font render, Copilot can run `search_fonts` to check if the font family name was misspelled or if it has been deprecated from the Google Fonts catalog.

Setup guide

Set up Google Fonts API MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

Add the Google Fonts API MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Google Fonts API tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Google Fonts API transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
