How to Use the HeyGen MCP in Cursor
Build automated video workflows by connecting HeyGen to your Cursor editor.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect HeyGen MCP to Cursor
Create your Vinkius account to connect HeyGen to Cursor and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Test the MCP Server Connection
The `test_heygen_auth` and `get_api_status` tools verify your connection before you write any code. Open a new project and ask Cursor to check your credentials. The editor pings the endpoint and confirms your token works. This prevents you from debugging a script for an hour only to realize your API key expired. You know the MCP Server is connected and ready.
Upload Media Context
Using `upload_media_asset` and `create_from_template` lets Cursor build complex video layouts. Point your AI client to a local image file. It uploads the asset, gets the new media ID, and injects that ID into your template configuration. You'll get working code that uses real file references. The agent actually performs the upload instead of just writing placeholder functions.
Trigger Video Renders
The `generate_ai_video` tool triggers the actual HeyGen rendering engine. Write a script to automate marketing videos. Cursor runs the generation command using your test data to prove the logic holds up. If the render fails, you see the error in the chat immediately. Fix the payload parameters and try again without switching tabs.
