How to Use the Honeywell Forge MCP in AutoGen
Deploy debating agents to manage your facilities. Connect AutoGen to physical building controls.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Honeywell Forge MCP to AutoGen
Create your Vinkius account to connect Honeywell Forge to AutoGen and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Run multi-agent facility management via MCP Server
Managing a large commercial building requires balancing competing priorities. You can set up an AutoGen environment where a Security Agent and an Operations Agent debate the best course of action. When an incident occurs, they pull data and negotiate a response. The Security Agent runs `get_alarms` and spots a forced entry. It proposes running `lock_door` on the entire wing. The Operations Agent checks `get_building_details` and argues that locking those doors traps the night cleaning crew. They reach a consensus to lock the perimeter but keep interior zones open.
Optimize energy versus comfort
Sustainability managers want low power bills. Tenants want cold air. You can build an agentic debate to find the perfect middle ground. The Energy Agent pulls `get_energy_usage` and flags a massive spike in HVAC consumption on the fourth floor. The Comfort Agent responds by querying `get_temperature_data` and proves the zone is currently five degrees above the setpoint. Instead of just shutting off the system, they agree to reduce the fan speed. You get intelligent, negotiated building control.
Coordinate physical security responses
Active security threats need immediate, coordinated action. A Triage Agent can monitor `get_door_status` across the campus. If it detects a breach, it immediately alerts a Surveillance Agent to start tracking the event. The Surveillance Agent executes `list_video_feeds` to find the cameras covering the breached zone. It passes the stream URLs back to a human operator while a third agent uses `list_access_points` to identify choke points. The system handles the heavy lifting while your guards focus on the actual threat.
Set up Honeywell Forge MCP in AutoGen
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]package - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install AutoGen with MCP
Run
pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includesmcp_server_toolsfor stateless tool access. - 2
Fetch tools from the MCP
Call
mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...))with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Run your agent
Pass the tools to
AssistantAgentand callagent.run(). The agent invokes Honeywell Forge tools and returns structured results.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="Honeywell Forge_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
tools=tools,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent Honeywell Forge data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]+autogen-agentchat - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install dependencies
Same packages as above.
McpWorkbenchis ideal when your agent needs stateful sessions across multiple tool calls. - 2
Use McpWorkbench as context manager
Wrap your agent in
async with McpWorkbench(...)to maintain shared state and resources. The workbench manages the full MCP session lifecycle. - 3
Run with workbench
Pass
workbench=workbenchto your agent. State is preserved across multiple tool calls within the same session.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import McpWorkbench, SseServerParams
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
async with McpWorkbench(server_params) as workbench:
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="Honeywell Forge_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
workbench=workbench,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent Honeywell Forge data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Independent Platform Disclaimer: Vinkius is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, verified by, or otherwise authorized by Honeywell Forge.
