Team Publishing Workflows inside VS Code Copilot

The `create_publication_post` tool lets your VS Code Copilot agent publish technical articles directly to your team's Medium Alternative publication. By committing the configuration to your repository, your entire engineering team can submit documentation drafts from the editor. This shared setup keeps your technical blog on Medium Alternative updated without manual copy-pasting. VS Code Copilot reads your workspace files, formats them into clean Markdown, and handles the API payload delivery.

Verify Publisher Identity and Access

The `get_me` tool retrieves the authenticated user's profile information to verify who is executing the publish command to Medium Alternative. VS Code Copilot runs this check to ensure the active developer has a valid integration token configured. This verification step prevents accidental cross-posting or authorization failures during team deployments to Medium Alternative. It confirms your local VS Code Copilot environment is authenticated before running write operations.

Audit Publication Contributors via MCP Server

The `list_contributors` tool fetches the list of authorized writers and editors for your Medium Alternative publication. VS Code Copilot displays this list in the chat, allowing you to check team permissions before scheduling a release. You can also use `list_publications` inside VS Code Copilot to map out which publications are available to the current user. This ensures your draft goes to the correct engineering publication queue on Medium Alternative.

Setup guide

Set up Medium Alternative MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Medium Alternative MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Medium Alternative tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Medium Alternative transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
