How to Use the NIST NVD MCP in Cline
Give Cline direct access to the national vulnerability database. Build security dashboards and patch scripts automatically.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect NIST NVD MCP to Cline
Create your Vinkius account to connect NIST NVD to Cline and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Write Patch Scripts with Cline
You tell Cline to write a bash script that checks your servers against known vulnerabilities. It hits the NIST NVD MCP server first. Your agent uses `search_cve_by_cpe` to find flaws affecting your exact tech stack. Then it writes the actual remediation code, tests it, and shows you the diff right in VS Code.
Instant CVE Lookups
Stop switching tabs to read vulnerability reports. When a security alert fires, tell Cline the identifier. It runs `get_cve_by_id` and pulls the raw CVSS scores and descriptions into your editor. If you need the weakness category, it fires `search_cve_by_cwe` to give you the root cause immediately.
Filter Vulnerabilities by Threat Level
You only care about what can actually compromise your system right now. Your AI client uses this MCP server to filter out the noise. Tell Cline to run `search_cve_by_severity` paired with `search_cve_by_date`. It pulls only the critical bugs published this week, ignoring the historical backlog.
