Debating Complex HR Decisions via MCP Server

AutoGen lets multiple agents debate and challenge conclusions to reach a final decision. Imagine having one agent check employee eligibility using `employees` while another checks job requirements using `jobs`. They argue over whether the candidate meets all criteria, forcing consensus. This simulation is perfect when the answer isn't obvious and requires competing perspectives to settle on the best path.

Negotiating Payroll Requirements

You can set up a multi-agent system where one agent demands immediate payroll data using `payroll`, while another (a 'compliance' agent) flags potential risks in that data. The agents negotiate the required level of detail and necessary approvals. This simulates real business risk assessment, forcing deliberation before any action is taken.

Analyzing Organizational Conflicts

Use `organizations` to map out the company structure. Then, set up agents that debate which department should own a certain function or resource. They will challenge each other's assumptions about reporting lines and departmental boundaries. This process helps identify structural ambiguities in your corporate setup.

Setup guide

Set up UKG Pro MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes UKG Pro tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="UKG Pro_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent UKG Pro data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about UKG Pro MCP in AutoGen

It doesn't execute sequentially; it makes agents debate the inputs and outputs. For instance, one agent might call `employees`, but a second agent will challenge its assumption about that employee's current role using `jobs`.
The agents interact with the `payroll` tool to pull records for the current pay period. The debate focuses on validating these financial details against business rules set by other agents.
Yes. You can configure one agent to query `jobs` and another to query `organizations`. They debate whether the role found in the job configuration aligns with the reporting structure shown by the organization component list.
If your goal is consensus—if you need agents to argue and refine a decision until they agree—then AutoGen's debate framework beats a simple, linear tool-calling chain every time.
Because the process involves multiple agents discussing and synthesizing information, the risk is in how the final 'consensus' decision handles sensitive personal identifiers found in `employees` records. You must guard the inputs carefully.
