Run complex job searches in the terminal

You tell Cline to search for jobs, and it uses `search_jobs` to get active listings. You can pass filters like keywords or categories directly into your script. The output is structured code you can immediately write to a file, test, and commit.

Batch process historic job data

Need to analyze thousands of old postings? Run `get_historic_joas`. Cline handles the pagination using continuation tokens so your script doesn't choke on massive datasets. The result is clean, usable JSON that you can pipe directly into a database write command.

Extract deep job requirements text

When `get_announcement_text` pulls data for a specific JOA, Cline grabs the full long text field. You don't have to open a browser; you get the raw content in your shell script. This means you can run automated parsing scripts on job requirements that are otherwise buried in HTML.

Common questions about USAJOBS (OPM) MCP in Cline

Just invoke the tool call directly in your terminal session. You write a script that calls `search_jobs` and then pipes the resulting data into another utility, like a file writer.
Yes. The `get_code_list` tool fetches valid values for search filters. You can embed this call into your script to dynamically build the necessary parameters for other functions.
Use `get_historic_joas`. Since you're in a coding environment, you can write a robust loop that handles the continuation tokens and processes all the historical job announcements reliably.
Totally. `search_jobs` supports detailed location filters right from the command line, letting you build scripts that only check jobs within a specific geographical area.
This server handles job announcement text and historical job posting metadata. The primary data types are long text fields, structured codes, and location strings for searching.
