Standardize IDs across the Team
By committing the `.vscode/mcp.json`, every developer on your team gets access to `generate_uuid`. This ensures everyone uses the same, reliable method for creating unique identifiers. The tool supports v4 random UUIDs, keeping your ID generation process consistent across all repositories.
Generate Sortable IDs in Shared Code
When writing shared service logic, use the v7 type. This time-ordered capability ensures that if records are inserted over time, they will sort correctly by creation date in your database. The MCP Server makes this powerful function available to every Copilot Chat session on the team.
Maintain ID Integrity for Shared Services
For business logic that relies on object names, use v5. The deterministic nature of these IDs means a given input always produces the same UUID, which is critical when multiple engineers are working on the same service. This prevents unexpected bugs caused by non-reproducible ID generation.
