Real-time Metrobus Position Tracking

Cline accesses `get_bus_positions` to get the raw feed. It returns vehicle IDs, route IDs, and precise lat/long coordinates for every bus in the system. This stream of data lets you build a live map component or calculate real-time passenger wait times for any given route.

Developing WMATA Service Coverage Reports

To scope out service areas, Cline uses `get_bus_routes` to list all available routes and descriptions. It can then call `get_bus_route_details` for a specific route ID. This gives you the complete sequence of stops and trip headsigns needed to structure your application's coverage map.

Automating Train Arrival Predictions with MCP Server

For building reliable commuter dashboards, Cline uses `get_station_prediction`. You feed it a station code (found via `get_rail_stations`), and the tool returns predicted arrival times for specific lines—like Red or Blue. This structured output is perfect for charting.

Common questions about WMATA MCP in Cline

Run a call to `get_bus_routes`. The tool returns the IDs, names, descriptions, and types for every route operated by WMATA. This is your starting point for any service area analysis.
The `get_station_entrances` tool returns entrance names, street addresses, and whether that specific access point has escalator or elevator access. This is critical for accurate wayfinding components.
Cline calls `get_rail_incidents` to gather incident descriptions, affected station codes, line impacts, and severity indicators. This data lets your dashboard immediately signal major disruptions.
You use `get_rail_stations`. You can filter the results by line code (like 'RD' for Red) or grab a full list. These station codes are mandatory when calling other tools like predictions.
The server provides operational data types, including route IDs, trip headsigns, destination names, and station codes (3-letter identifiers).
