Working with the Workvivo API via MCP Server

The `list_workvivo_posts` tool lets your agent read recent activity from Workvivo and inject that list directly into the code you're writing. You get live data—not stubs or mocks. Need a single post? Use `get_post_details`. The AI can pull out specific text fields or metadata, letting you build functions around real-world content.

Managing Workvivo User and Group Data

Write code that needs to know who's on the team. `list_employees` pulls the full directory list into your active file context. The AI can then process this data structure immediately. Also, use `list_collaboration_spaces` to gather all group names and IDs, letting you write logic that targets specific organizational units.

Creating Workvivo Content Programmatically

When your program needs to announce something, the `create_social_post` tool handles it. You pass the text content and an optional space ID, and the AI generates the API call for you. Conversely, if a post failed or needs review, use `get_space_details` to confirm which group owns that context before making changes.

Set up Workvivo MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

    Add the Workvivo MCP

Cursor will create or open .cursor/mcp.json in your project root. Paste the JSON snippet on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent Workvivo transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the Workvivo tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about Workvivo MCP in Cursor

You let the AI call the MCP Server tools. For example, if you need a list of users, prompt it to use `list_employees`. The resulting JSON gets injected right into your code block.
Yes, the agent can call `delete_social_post`. Remember, this action is irreversible. Always confirm with the AI before letting it execute that specific write operation.
It does. You can list upcoming company activities using `list_company_events`. This data is immediately available for you to use when building event-related features in your code.
It's perfect. Since the tools are designed to return live API responses, you aren't dealing with placeholder data—you get real context that works right out of the box.
The server accesses employee profiles, social posts (text content), and collaboration space details. The code you write can read these structured records into memory.
