Live SQL Execution in Cursor

The real power is calling `execute_sql` to get live results. Instead of using mock data, your AI agent runs the query against Xata and feeds the actual records directly into the code you're writing. This makes debugging so much faster because what you see in the editor is exactly what the database says.

Structuring Projects with MCP Server

You don't have to manage your DB structure manually. Use `list_projects` and `get_project` to understand the current setup within your code context. The agent can then use `create_project` when you need a new scope. It keeps all your work organized, letting you focus on writing clean, functional code.

Handling DB Credentials for Cursor

Credentials shouldn't be hardcoded. The MCP Server exposes `get_branch_credentials` so the agent can securely retrieve and use the necessary keys in your script. If those credentials are stale, you can trigger a rotation with `rotate_branch_credentials` before committing.

Common questions about Xata (Serverless DB) MCP in Cursor

When your AI agent needs context, it calls the MCP Server's `execute_sql` tool. It grabs the live records and injects them into the code block you are currently editing.
Your agent interacts with Organization IDs, Project Names, and Branch Credentials. The tool set covers everything from listing organizations to managing project scope.
Yes. You can use `list_branches` and `get_branch` to see what databases exist, or call `create_branch` if your code requires a new data scope.
Use the `get_project` tool. It pulls specific information about an existing project. You can also check resource limits with `get_project_limits`.
The MCP Server handles this directly. The agent uses `rotate_branch_credentials` or `get_branch_credentials` to ensure your code always has the latest, secure keys.
