Do I need an ESPN account to use this?
No. This MCP uses the public ESPN site API, so it is keyless and requires no credentials or accounts.

How can I see only new injuries?
You can use the injury_watch capability and pass a timestamp from your previous check to see only the entries reported since then.

Does this work with Claude or Cursor?
Yes. This MCP works with any MCP-compatible client, including Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf.

How are the standings calculated?
Since official standings are not always available as data, the MCP derives a leaderboard by calculating win rates from recent game results.

Can I look at games from a specific date in the past?
Yes. The sports_ticker capability allows you to pass a specific date to view the scores and board for that day.

Do I need credentials?
No. The ESPN site API is public and anonymous. no key, no account. It does throttle anonymous bursts, so the capabilities are built to keep day windows small (a handful of scoreboard days, not season sweeps) and say so in the rate-limit note when it happens.

How does the "since" delta detection work?
The server is stateless. Any capability that returns a timestamp is your baseline: keep it in the agent's context, and on the next check pass it as since. injury_watch then returns only the entries reported after that day. the agent reports the new news, not the whole list again. For games, compare a new recent_games answer against the games you stored.

Why is the leaderboard called "derived"?
The league's official standings table is not published as queryable data in the 2026 API shape, so team_standings reads each team's W-L record from the scoreboard and schedule team objects over the last N days (default 14, max 30) and sorts by win rate. The honest scope: only teams that actually played inside the window appear. the result says so in its note. Widen the window to pull in more teams.

Which leagues are supported?
Four US major leagues: MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL (pass mlb, nfl, nba or nhl, case-insensitive). Soccer was deliberately left out of this build. the same day-looping scoreboard pattern would work for it, so treat it as a follow-up rather than an oversight.
