Key Capabilities

Standardize Analysis in VS Code

Add this MCP to your project's `.vscode/mcp.json`, and every developer on your team gets instant access to basis analysis tools. The `calculate_current_basis` tool provides a consistent way to determine the difference between local and futures prices. No more conflicting spreadsheet formulas or different data sources. Your whole team can ask Copilot to run the numbers, ensuring everyone is working from the same playbook, right inside their editor.

Historical Data for Your MCP Server

When Copilot has access to this MCP server, it can use the `get_historical_averages` tool to pull clean, structured historical basis data directly into your workspace. This is perfect for enterprise applications that need to benchmark current market conditions. Copilot can use the tool's output to populate reports, validate models, or provide context for financial dashboards your team is building.

Integrate Seasonal Trends

Basis movement often follows the calendar. The `get_seasonality_trend` tool gives Copilot the ability to fetch the expected basis trend for a given period. Your team can now build systems that flag deviations from seasonal norms or automatically adjust strategy based on predictable market phases. It's a shared capability that makes your team's applications smarter.

Setup guide

Set up Basis Calculator MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Basis Calculator MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Basis Calculator tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Basis Calculator transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about Basis Calculator MCP in VS Code Copilot

A team lead adds the Basis Calculator MCP to the project's `.vscode/mcp.json` file and commits it to your repository. Every developer who pulls the repo will automatically have the tools available in Copilot's agent mode.
Yes. The connection to the MCP runs over HTTPS. Since the configuration can be managed and version-controlled via Git, it fits perfectly into enterprise development workflows and security postures.
Its main advantage is team-wide consistency. By defining the Basis Calculator MCP in a shared config file, you ensure every developer's Copilot uses the exact same logic for basis analysis, eliminating discrepancies.
Absolutely. You can add the MCP to your global user configuration in VS Code instead of a project-specific file. This makes the tools available to Copilot in any project you work on.
The MCP is designed to be stateless. It processes the physical and futures prices you send for the calculation but does not store them. Security is handled by encrypting the data in transit between VS Code and the MCP endpoint.
