Key Capabilities

Automate Pub/Sub message publishing

The `pubsub_publish_message` tool publishes a message to the specific Google Pub/Sub Topic. By setting this up in `.vscode/mcp.json`, every developer on the team gets instant access to this functionality. It makes complex cloud interactions feel like calling a simple function within your current file, simplifying CI/CD scripting.

Centralized tooling for all developers

Using the project-level configuration allows IT teams to manage and enforce tool usage across an entire repo. You commit the shared `mcp.json` file, and everyone inherits the capability. This ensures that every developer is working with the exact same tools and definitions for connecting to services like Google Pub/Sub Topic.

Agent-driven API interaction

When Copilot Chat runs in Agent mode, it doesn't just suggest code; it executes the required steps. It calls `pubsub_publish_message` and uses the resulting data to continue building out your application logic. This is how you build truly autonomous pipelines that span multiple services.

Setup guide

Set up Google Pub/Sub Topic MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

Add the Google Pub/Sub Topic MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Google Pub/Sub Topic tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Google Pub/Sub Topic transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about Google Pub/Sub Topic MCP in VS Code Copilot

You define the server in a project-scoped `.vscode/mcp.json` file, which then gets shared via Git to all team members. This keeps the configuration version controlled with your code.
Yes. The Enterprise offering provides SOC 2 compliance and IT-managed rollout, ensuring that adding tools like this MCP adheres to organizational governance policies.
It does. Because the configuration is committed to the repository, every developer uses the same version of the `pubsub_publish_message` tool definition and parameters.
You can send standard message payloads. The system treats these as strings, giving your agent the flexibility to structure data like JSON before it hits the topic.
The MCP touches message payloads. All actions are logged in a cryptographically signed audit trail, giving full visibility into who called the tool and what data flowed through.
