Key Capabilities
Collaborative document processing in AutoGen
The `pdf_to_json` tool provides the raw structural data that your AutoGen analyst agent needs to inspect a document. While the analyst agent extracts the tables, a separate validation agent reviews the output JSON to check for parsing errors. If the validation agent flags an error, it requests the coordinator agent to run `ocr_image` instead. The agents debate the accuracy of both results before saving the final verified text to your database.
Automated security consensus with PDF.co MCP Server
The `protect_pdf` tool is triggered when your AutoGen security agent identifies sensitive information in a generated report. The security agent refuses to approve the workflow until a password is set, debating with the performance agent about compliance rules. Once the agents agree on the security parameters, the writer agent uses `merge_pdfs` to combine the files, and the security agent applies the password. This multi-agent negotiation runs entirely through our MCP connection to ensure that no unencrypted documents leave the system.
Multi-agent file splitting and processing pipelines
The `split_pdf` tool lets your coordinator agent break a large document into individual pages for parallel analysis. The coordinator distributes these pages to multiple worker agents, who process their assigned pages simultaneously. Each worker agent uses `pdf_to_text` to extract the content of its page. Once all workers finish, they submit their findings to a summarizer agent, who compiles the final report and checks the balance using `get_account_info`.
Set up PDF.co MCP in AutoGen
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]package - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install AutoGen with MCP
Run
pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includesmcp_server_toolsfor stateless tool access. - 2
Fetch tools from the MCP
Call
mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...))with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Run your agent
Pass the tools to
AssistantAgentand callagent.run(). The agent invokes PDF.co tools and returns structured results.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="PDF.co_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
tools=tools,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent PDF.co data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]+autogen-agentchat - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install dependencies
Same packages as above.
McpWorkbenchis ideal when your agent needs stateful sessions across multiple tool calls. - 2
Use McpWorkbench as context manager
Wrap your agent in
async with McpWorkbench(...)to maintain shared state and resources. The workbench manages the full MCP session lifecycle. - 3
Run with workbench
Pass
workbench=workbenchto your agent. State is preserved across multiple tool calls within the same session.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import McpWorkbench, SseServerParams
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
async with McpWorkbench(server_params) as workbench:
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="PDF.co_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
workbench=workbench,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent PDF.co data")
