Key Capabilities

Connect the TimezoneDB MCP Server

Enterprise agents running on Google Cloud need exact timestamps to query BigQuery datasets effectively. You initialize this integration by passing a `McpToolset` configured with `StreamableHttpServerParameters` directly into your `LlmAgent`. When your agent needs to correlate a local event with a global database, it uses `get_time_by_zone`. This fetches the current time and offset details for the target region so your SQL queries align perfectly.

Map coordinates to local time

Logistics and delivery platforms often track assets via raw GPS data. Your Gemini agent can take those inputs and execute `get_time_by_location` to figure out the exact local time at those geographic coordinates. It also handles the headache of shifting clocks. The `get_dst_status` tool lets the agent verify if a specific zone is currently observing daylight saving time before generating a customer-facing ETA.

Maintain reliable context

Long-context models can hold massive amounts of data, but they still need structure. If you need to build a global mapping table, `list_timezones` pulls every supported region, which the agent can filter by country and hold in memory. Uptime matters when you orchestrate cloud infrastructure. The agent can run `check_api_status` to ensure the time service is operational before starting a massive timezone conversion pipeline.

Setup guide

Set up TimezoneDB MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with TimezoneDB tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="TimezoneDB_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to TimezoneDB tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about TimezoneDB MCP in Google ADK

Wrap your Vinkius endpoint URL in `StreamableHttpServerParameters` and pass it to `McpToolset`. Assign that toolset to your `LlmAgent`.
Yes. You can apply a `tool_names` filter when setting up the toolset. This keeps the agent focused strictly on the functions it needs.
The MCP standard is agnostic to context length. Your agent can pull massive lists of timezone data and hold them in its working memory for complex cross-referencing.
The agent can invoke the built-in status check tool. If it detects an outage, you can write logic to pause your Vertex AI pipeline.
The system receives raw GPS coordinates and timezone identifiers. Vinkius operates on a zero-trust architecture where all requests happen inside isolated sandboxes that vanish the moment the response is dispatched.
